Its because he kinda dances like a puppet  |

The first run of the below show was before I was old enough, but it ran in re-runs for much of the late 80's to mid 90's and I grew fond of it. |

Re: Nostalgia Corner
Oh dear! I went onto YouTube to find a Basil Brush episode to post here - but I didn't think any of them were funny. Very disappointing. I certainly found them clever the first time around. Anybody else?

That show and the freeway construction in California were perfect timing really, one reason they could have all those crashes and limited and controlled traffic on freeways was due to them simply not being open yet, they utilized a lot of the under construction freeways to film those scenes. |

I saw Basil in real life with Larry Grayson and Leslie Crowther when on family holiday at Paignton. 1971 I remember LG came on stage covered in feathers saying he thought there'd been a cock fight..."no such luck"...something like that anyway. Good family entertainment.:rofl: I found a pic of the programme on ebay  |

Re: Nostalgia Corner
I also loved Roobarb and Custard, and Dangermouse!! But the ones I remember as a very little kid are Poogle's wood, Ivor the Engine and Noggin the Nog - so loved all of those.
I also looked up Basil Brush and didn't find it as funny as I remember. Nor was Captain Pugwash . Life will never be the same again :( |
Re: Nostalgia Corner
Danger Mouse was awesome as was the Raggy Dolls, Fun House, Art Attack (the show in which I discovered Zero 7 as they used their music for some of the big art attacks).
Captain Planet and TMNT a well! |
Re: Nostalgia Corner
I didn't grow up in UK but we had Danger Mouse in the US, I used to watch it after school.

Re: Nostalgia Corner
Can't forget about the Ernest P. Worrell character and related movies and specials, corny but usually funny.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernest_P._Worrell The actor passed in 2000, so no more Ernest. The character was also in a lot of commercials in the time.. Milk Cars |
Re: Nostalgia Corner
Love the UNCLE music |
Re: Nostalgia Corner
These were So. California local commercials in the 80's and early 90's, all the corny local commercials from back then.
1986 1988 1981 Here is Cal Worthington and his dog spot, go see Cal go see Cal... The commercials worked, I still remember them.... No idea if they are still around. Passed away in 2013 at 92, seems he was doing ads til the end. |
Re: Nostalgia Corner
Local again to California mostly, PSA aka Pacific Southwest Airlines, the original low fare airline, and based on my home town of San Diego, in 1988 they were sold to US Air who slowly pulled out of the west coast, which allowed new arrival Southwest Airlines based in Texas to take over the western US air market.
This is the airline I worked for who merged with US Airways who then merged with American Airlines, the CEO of America West is still CEO of the new AA. The folks in the commercials were actual employees and not paid actors. |
