Northerner or Southerner?

From a casual glance it seems that there are many more Northerners that feel the need to emigrate to Canada than Southerners, but I have no hard data to support that claim. So a I thought a poll could provide much needed evidence for any future discussions or posts.

*Please, lets keep the rhetoric civil, polite and with no unnecessary or malicious stereotyping.

So where's the poll??

Be sure to add "unknown", "unsure" "hyphenated"

You will need to define north and south.

See what your glance caused?

I think we all know deep down where we're from. No need for artificial boundaries.

I was born in the home counties, spent most of my "formative years" in the northwest, returned to the south for a few years as a late teen, then spent years at uni in Yorkshire, worked in Norfolk for a few years and then finally gave up and came to Canada (which is further south than anywhere I lived in the UK).

I couldnt and wouldnt define myself as a northerner or southerner.

Course not, Im from England, but I dont self identify as a northerner or southerner. Im sure more than a few other posters here have a similarly mobile upbringing too, hence the limitations of your poll:p

So where does that leave the majority of Man U supporters? Clearly they are not all northerners. And anyone who follows chelsea, bar about 20,000 who predate russian money are not real fans anyway, they just tagged along due to the glamour.

In the away section at Old Trafford my favourite chant, aimed at the home supporters, was "can we give you a lift home?"

You will need to define north and south.

Anything or anybody outside the boundaries of the North/South Circular Road is not to be trusted:thumbsup:

Seriously, to me the North begins at about Stoke/Derby etc and north.

The 'north' isn't just a line on a map...its a lifestyle.

I realize I have yet to run the numbers through the system, but at a cursory glance at the raw data, my hypothesis, induced through discourse analysis of the Jarrow Marches and pictorial data of L.S. Lowry, that most immigrants are from poor northern areas, might need a little tweaking.

On the other hand.

Me North, Mrs South. She says she dramatically lowered her standards when she met me, although until I saw this poll I didn't realise she meant it was because of where I came from......

She's from Grantham which is neither north nor south, that was her trouble, worried in case people thought she was a northerner so she desperately tried to be a posh southerner.

Is she still alive?

The question wasn't "where were you living before you moved to Canada?" which is rather different to whether or not you consider yourself a northerner.

A better poll might have separated South-East and South-West. I spent most of my life in South-West england and it's a very different mindset and environment to the South-East.

Exactly

We moved for that very reason, 80% of my work was in Crappy, crowded, smelly London.

Very true.

As a Southerner I want no link what so ever with Weston-Super-Mare. The people and pidgeons have two heads!

Best,
