They are just like their Canadian provincial and federal counter parts, who point to their 'independent' boards having approved pay increases, claiming that without pay increases that attracting the right people would be difficult, which to me confirms that politics is a career, and not the public service they claim it to be.

This development of the thread is one reason that contributed towards Trump and Brexit. People at large will put up with a great deal provided they think they are being treated fairly. Each blatent example of the establishment and the wealthy bending, creating and ignoring rules as they see fit to their benefit nudges the pendulum away from civil acceptance to one of civil hostility. This generates unpredictable outcomes and beneficiaries and is at the mercy of contemporary events.
