They are just like their Canadian provincial and federal counter parts, who point to their 'independent' boards having approved pay increases, claiming that without pay increases that attracting the right people would be difficult, which to me confirms that politics is a career, and not the public service they claim it to be.
Never a shortage of candidates is there, as for quality however...

That's the truth of the matter. Of course it's a career, nothing wrong with that. The claim is not the "right people" (that's in the private and charity sectors) it's a "wide range of people" (which is means, people who could not otherwise afford to become MP's). If it's an independent panel, there's nothing to complain about.

It's the only thing I would of considered going back for
What the nurses need is not a pay rise but one of those flash MP expenses accounts where they can redo their homes on the tax payer.

The magic money tree exists for some but not others.

This development of the thread is one reason that contributed towards Trump and Brexit. People at large will put up with a great deal provided they think they are being treated fairly. Each blatent example of the establishment and the wealthy bending, creating and ignoring rules as they see fit to their benefit nudges the pendulum away from civil acceptance to one of civil hostility. This generates unpredictable outcomes and beneficiaries and is at the mercy of contemporary events.
