The video was taken by me, I was literally rooted to the spot by the wind while filming. It was taken during the blizzard on New Years day this year.
I was really lucky as the power didn't go out (and I was snow bound for a couple of days ). Where I live it's almost pointless digging out until the storm has gone, as the wind just blows the snow back within an hour or so. I was told the wind gusts were hurricane force and it was definitely far worse than any of the other storms I've seen here in the last few years (including hurricanes and tropical storms!)

Be prepared!

New Years Day 2009 was a bad one here. We left the Dignan's NY eve party at around 1.30am and headed home across town in the snow. Just as well none of us had work on the 1st because it was nasty

Winter is mostly beautiful though

I know, dont talk about bank balance or lack of let us know if you find a good deal on snow tires and studs
Hi Nikki, just food for thought before you buy a snow blower, find out if anyone local will plow it for you, you know how long our drive is well it only cost us $25 a time to get it plowed and we only needed it doing twice last winter. Blowers are expensive and you think how long it will take to get your money back if it only costs you $20 ish bucks a time, just a thought, but the upshot of having a snowblower is that you can get yourself out quicker rather than wait for someone to get you out, although having said that lots of people do it as a second job in the winter and most of them plan in advance (within reason) and they come without being asked, but you have to make that arrangement with them before hand. The guy that lived in the house before us had an agreement with him that he would just come whenever and plow him out, but we didn't need this because we have the truck so most of the time we could get out.

Isn't there an attachment for your ole mans lawnmower to turn it into a snow plough? You might be able to pick one up on Kijiji.

At some grocery stores you can ask for parcel pick-up.

They give you a piece of plastic with a number on it and place another piece of plastic with the same number on top of your groceries they then take your groceries to a designated pick-up area.

You go out, get in your car and drive to the pick-up area give them the numbered piece of plastic and the nice young men or women will load your groceries into your car for you.
