Decisions, decisions. Here are the two options: German Shepherd pup or the easier option of an 18 month old Springer

Get the one that is better looking.....you know what they say about people looking like their dogs / cats. Funny enough, the truth is always in that pudding when you see some disturbing resemblances with people and their dogs mostly

Hmm , Springer spaniels are certainly energetic dogs. From what I know , they tend to be more family oriented personalities whereas German shepherds tend to be a one person dog.

They are both beautiful dogs though.

Very torn but again I will let fate decide I think. We have had 2 GS and 1 Springer, all were great but that's not saying they all are in either breed.

Whilst I see your point about 1 person dog ( our first GS was really my wife's protector whereas the second tended to stick with me ), he certainly protected the house even when family arrived - he had to be told to let them in.

Obviously I'm biased (look at his little face :( ) Springers aren't as energetic as people think - they really need more stimulation than excercise, as anyone with a played out springer will tell you!

Oh Tangram Congratulation:thumbup:

What a bloody hard decision....I'd have the Springer, I love Springers, but the joy of a well trained Shepherd has geat appeal. I have the most wonderful Cairn, but he would run off and chase things in a heartbeat and be lost....I worry about that constantly.

Very best of luck with your decision and joy with your new best mate!

Part of the decision made, Bentley the Springer was sold pretty quickly. Happy he found another home.

Now on to Saturday to evaluate the GS pups.

How did you get around the well pipe problem?

DB, we took the well cap off and shone a torch down, then fed a steel tape measure down until we hit the protuberance of the pipe. That was 5 ft from the top of the well. So take 8 inches off that, call it 4ft down to be safe. Fence posts went in to a depth of 3ft and then....hoped for the best.

So far we still have water, just waiting for the pressure tank to go through its volume and then we can be sure we didn't hit anything but I am hoping we are good.

We now have an area fenced off at the back of the garage of 8ft by 21ft to act as a poop area and enclosure to avoid the situation we had when my daughter let the Springer out when we were out.

Get a cat as cats don't need walking at minus 30C
Good luck with whatever you choose.

Oh be careful not to piss off the cat lovers or start the thread drift as to why cats are better than dogs;) Speaking of which even Animal Planet gives 10 reasons why cats are better than dogs
http://animal.discovery.com/pets/i-l...etter-dogs.htm

Remember dogs have masters and cats have servants.
