new Ontario driving test for immigrants
#1
"They" have realised that Britons swapping their UK driving license for an Ontario drivers license dont have some basic skills needed for driving in ontario
In future a test will include

In future a test will include
- Driving a reasonable distance over a variety of terrain (construction ) with a tray of 4 cups of Timmies. No coffee must be spilled
- Cornering while drinking/eating and talking on a cell phone
- Maintaining a distance of less than one cars length behind the vehicle in front at speed of over 80kph for at least 10km
- Overtaking on a blind summit or bend, then cutting in sharply in front and braking to acheive a speed lower than the overtaken vehicle was using.
- Turning left, Ontario drivers habitually cut the corner driving over the central line, look straight ahead when you do this, make sure you dont see that other cars have had to brake to avoid a collision.

when you swap your license for an ontario one do you have to give up your british one? is it really that simple, just walking in and swapping?

You have to take a full copy (paper and plastic card) with you and hand it over, they keep this copy but you don't "loose" your British license.
Just call the DVLA and request a full copy of your license and tell them you lost the whole thing, it only costs £19. Thats all I had to do.

I'm looking at OPP and TPS, I want to be in and around Toronto.
That said, I still have to complete the testing when I go over and have interviews etc...
You have to be a Canadian citizen to apply to either of the above but I know that Calgary are actively recruiting British police officers.
