Hi all,
we are having few issues with our shipping company and have decided (after 6 weeks of sleeping on a blow up beds) to buy a new bed/mattress whilst we are waiting for our stuff to arrive.
I know there are hundreds of places where we could get one from (seen all of the leaflets which are clogging up my ladder) but just wondered if anyone bought one recently and had it delivered (no, we dont have one of those massive trucks everyone seems to be driving here
). We are in Calgary S.E.
Thank you

Failing that, Sleep Country have stores all over the place.
The above applies if you wish to purchase something a Canadian would identify with; if you want quality stuff, expect to pay through your nose for it and you will have to go to an independent store.

We got one from the brick. It is really good. Much better than the one we had in the UK that was an imitation tempur one.
It was reduced from £2800 to $800 and they delivered.
They also will change it if you are not happy with it in the 6 months after buying.
Hope this helps!

Thanks guys, I think we will give Heritage Drive a go. My beloved Laura Ashley bed is still stuck in the UK, so the bed we will buy here would be for the guest bedroom when we are finished with it

We bought one from The Brick for a spare room. Got it cheap as it was an ex-display model and they delivered it the following day!

Go to The Bay. Go to their bedding section. Find the mattress you like. Negotiate with the salesperson like you were buying a camel. After the price is agreed and only then, refuse to pay any delivery charges and then get on with your life. Simples.

Having been through nine mattresses, IKEA is your best bet, imo (at least for something reasonably priced, dare say Tempurpedic can do better). I'm not saying you can't get something decent from The Brick or Sleep Country or wherever but it's more hit and miss (and if you want to return something, OMG The Brick are the worst for that).
The customer service at IKEA though for beds is pretty grim and they also put them at the back of the warehouse for reasons known only to themselves, so getting the mattress to the counter is a PITA.
Beware of "recommendations" because Simmons, Serta, etc have plants all over the place and are constantly fiddling with the designs, I think Simmons has a plant in Edmonton. Which is not to say they're necessarily bad but you have to be careful. There's a thread on here where I went through in excruciating detail all the problems I had with each mattress and business I dealt with.
The main one I remember having problems with was a Simmons mattress, the memory foam I had in one of theirs was toxic, no doubt about it, came up with a rash, the air in the house was hard to breath.
IKEA mattresses are made in Mexico.

Maybe we should just stick with the blow up mattress

Thank you for the warning though.
PS: "PITA" -

OK, I know I'm changing the subject slightly but I'd also give Ikea a thumbs up with regard to bedding. We've bought new bedding for five bedrooms over here from 4 different stores and only the stuff we got in Ikea is still in good shape! All the others have either faded, had buttons come off in the wash, stitching come undone or, in one case a bed skirt that has a tear in it.

I just got a new bed a few weeks ago as above haggle for every cent !!!
I also insisted on buying the floor model - dismantled it myself in the show room and took it away myself - saved a delivery fee and the sales lady gave me an extra 200 dollars off an already half price mattress !!!
