Re: Netflix
We love the Netflix, using a VPN (http://unblock-us.com) and are going through all the 30 Rock episodes right now. For $9 a month for netflix and $5 a month for Unblock-US we are definitely saving a bundle of money on cable.
If you do get a VPN you should check out Hulu.com too, that's what we use to catch up on the latest shows (they're online about a day after they're broadcast) and in great quality with incredibly limited commercial breaks (maybe only 2/3 individual ads in a 20 minute show - plus if you take the time you can choose what sort of ads you'd prefer to watch, which is the way all networks should be going!)

yes.....I also had a young family and am a firm believer that young toddlers and babies went to bed at 6, so sitting and watching evening TV was the hi light of our evening when they were little.....we went a bit crazy on a Sat and got a bottle of wine and a chocolate treat from Sainsbury's when one of us nipped to get the lottery ticket!!!

Depending on your VPN, you can also get access to Sky on the Go.
All you need is someones Sky card details that isnt already registered with the online service (eg/ my mum )
Edit- we also cancelled cable when we moved from AB to NS. Never once looked back, and we're saving a fortune each month.

Alas... it doesn't work on Macs.
Some great suggestions out there, thank you. I am working on it and looking forward to the day when I can tell Bell to take their crappy, expensive, invasive tripe and stick it where the sun don't shine!

I looked at Expatshield... a UK IP address would be great... I missed Southampton's game against Coventry on the BBC because it "wasn't available in your Country"!! I couldn't even hear it on Radio 5 for the same reason!
