Default Netflix

Has anyone here signed up for Netflix? Is it any good in Canada? I know they're doing a free trial, but they still want credit card details, which I'm reluctant to give out online.

I've just realised we're paying Bell $75 a month for what is perhaps the crappiest programming on earth.... and people moan about the BBC fee!!

I wouldn't mind, but not only are we paying all that money, we are being constantly bombarded by naff adverts. I'm trying to watch Triple X tonight and have given up... the ads seem to be on longer than the film!

If you do use Netflix, how does it affect your "data plan"? We have 140GB a month, but with iPads and video rentals from iTunes (which we do a lot so we can watch a film with no ads or warnings about getting hung for copyright violations) we get close to that limit sometimes. I can only imagine Netflix will take us way over.

Any hints or advice welcomed!

I quite like NetFlix and find enough to watch for the small fee. Lots of good French films, some decent series as well and enough other movies.

I have Primus so no cap on downloads. Sounds like you would be ok though.

Get an antenna and get free OTA HD. I refuse to pay for cable here.

Thanks for the reply.... what on earth is OTA HD with an antenna???

I'm not interested in French films....!

Does Netflix have adverts interrupting, too?

Finally... what is Primus? I think I've missed a lot of alternatives to Bell here...

OTA HD - over the air high definition. Depending where you are you can get a decent number of Canadian and US channels for free with an antenna. Same as in UK. I get about 20 here in Toronto.

Ok, just saying there are some excellent French films.

No adverts.

Primus is an internet/phone provider (but not TV).

OTA = Over The Air TV

No netflixs does not have adverts in the movies/TV shows, hence the fee.

The use of Netflix will impact your data usage and they have compression settings which can reduce the data usage. I think Netflicks has a FAQ section including answers on data usage.

+1 for Netflix

I alternate between the Canadian and American one. Well worth the $8 in my opinion.

Try the free trial.

I think the trick with Netflix is not to look for something in particular but see what they have and give it a try. Kind of what we have been doing with the French films.

Saw "The Grocers Son" which was rather good.

The kids watch the kids TV progs, mostly Family Channel stuff over and over again. They have some quite good movies on there, some are ancient but they do have quite a few new ones too.

No adverts you just flick through and choose what you want to watch

My work VPN lets me choose lots of countries, including the US.

Not sure how you'd do it yourself though. Try grabbing any address over there.

A big thumbs up for Netflix from me too. We watch Netflix more these days than we do regular TV. New stuff is being added constantly. Lots of UK stuff on there too that we've been re-watching. I also like the kids option so you know they can browse and only watch age appropriate movies and TV.
