My first NS bear
#1
Husband, dog and I went on a bike ride (dog was not riding a bike
) near our house tonight and we spotted our first bear since being here. Think we may have scared the bear and her cubs into a tree. Luckily we didn't spot them until they were already in the tree.
Apart from deer and birds this is the first live wildlfe we have seen since arriving in October. It was exciting but also a little worrying as I walk along the route every day and they were just at the side of the footpath.

We're in Fall River. A neighbour had told us there are bears locally as one had visited a nearby garden but I thought I'll never see one here.

I was the same as you. Soooo desperate to see one. It's amazing how once you actually do see one close up and witness how quickly they can move, you soon lose the interest in wanting to see another, i find.
Maybe from a distance for sure, but close-ish? Not for me. Big scary buggers they are.
My Wifes Aunty's car had a run in with one the other day. She left some scraps of food in her SUV over night and the following morning her passenger door was hanging off and bear prints on the seats and around the car on the ground

We have a mom and 2 cubs at the bottom of our fields and seen her a few times in the last 2 weeks. We make sure we don't disturb them and the dogs don't get anywhere near them

Congrats on your first sighting - I was so excited to see our first bear a couple of weeks ago. Mind you - ours was at a safe distance, and yours was a bit close for comfort

they have also been a bit of a problem in Kingswood/Hammonds Plain
This is a good website for more info

we were in Jasper a good few years ago and there were loads of sightings, bears rummaging through debri etc, but we didn't even get close to one
which is probably just as well as there was a seious attack on a woman, a hunter if i remember right
