Absolutely. The police shouldn't make criminals of those who just want the odd cheeky livener. My nan's on probation now. :(

Will we ever see a completely legalized pot industry in the same way we have alcohol for example? We have had similar busts and issues locally here with "pot shops" yet the law has not changed so why do all these people think they can open up and sell on the high street without others complaining and action being taken by councils or law officials.
The US is still in a state of denial over their new found liberal states that have made it legal because whilst Washington state may say its legal, federal law says its not and don't ever mention to a border guard you smoke the stuff or you're travel plans stateside may well be cancelled indefinitely.
The whole situation is a mess and i don't see an easy or quick fix.

Medical marijuana is legal in some circumstances, and that isn't what these arrests are all about, totally unrelated. Set up a cocaine dispensary for recreational cocaine and see what happens. I'm sure the main motivation for pop-up pot shops is purely monetary, and any ideals about spreading whole-earth medicine are secondary. Recent studies verify that smoking anything is dangerous and bad for you, (surprise!) so there'll be programs to stop people from smoking pot just like with cigarettes. The vaporizer business is huge. From what I've heard prices in our local herb store are in line with the black market, but the selection is great, so that sounds ok, but what will happen when the government announces what their share should be? Change the bill from $7 - $10/gram to $22 and the black market will flourish, tax free. Will the courts be freed up? There will be the tickets for stoned driving, smoking in public, underage smoking, providing to minors.... it may not take as much time as possession charges but it will take some time. I'm not against legalisation, but I see the problems inherent in it. More than anything I just don't trust the government not to screw it up.
