Originally, our intentions were to move to BC....mainly because that's where "family" are. Over the last few weeks, we have been gradually changing our mind and are now more inclined to the Moncton area of New Brunswick.
For a few days now, we have been looking at a place out towards Harcourt....it is an older type home with some good acreage including mixed woodlands. We are in the UK, so are not able to view the property prior to making any sort of offer.
If anyone is living towards the Noth-West of Moncton, out Harcourt way, then we would appreciate your comments about the area in general.
We have owned a very isolated place in rural France and so don't really need anyone to warn us about the "pitfalls" of living in the middle of nowhere....to be honest, that is exactly what we like.
....(not that we are anti-social!!!!).
I look forward to receiving your views
Best wishes,
Steve

Have you actually visited Moncton? It's very very different to BC..... of course, that may be a good thing for you?

Hi
We live in the greater Moncton area. Although only 10 minutes from town.
Harcourt is a good hour from Moncton, and while you may have lived out in the sticks in France the weather here can be very much worse than anything you experience there I imagine. And country roads and freezing rain or a blowing blizzard is no joke, even with winter tyres.
Having said that I know plenty of people who live an hours drive from Moncton and drive in daily for work. It wouldn't suit me but we are all different.
Do you have to buy the property before you get here? I wouldn't advise it. There is a fair bit of well priced property over in this part of Canada so I wouldn't jump in too quick. What looks good on the mls can be quite different once you see it.
Also rural property can take a long time to sell sometimes. We have been here 3 years and I still see the odd property still on the mls from when we were looking to buy. So if you do buy something you don't like you may well be stuck with is for longer than you might wish.
We love it over on this side of Canada and are very happy with our move here.
Hope this helps.

Many thanks for the response Pennyhp......Your comments are well received here
.
I suspect that the weather in Canada in general is potentially much worse than that experienced in France.....so wherever we would go, we would have to face that issue!
I am actually retired....(albeit at an early age!!)...so there is no question of a daily commute....perhaps a weekly shopping trip....but that would be all
We have recognised that the matter of reselling a property (especially out in the sticks and especially an older property) can cause concern.....and, no, we don't have to buy before we get there. However, for us and our two dogs, and for the purpose of my "landing"....this seems like best alternative.
I really do appreciate the sentiments you have expressed.....I have been warned!!
