A moan. Don't ask me about moving to Canada today

Re: A moan. Don't ask me about moving to Canada today
Hi
Thanks everyone for the support.
My husband is a real professional and he's being very calm about it - his view is that he was burning himself out and it's a blessing in disguise. He has been very reasonable and has provided a handover and sorted everything so it's left in good order. He's been promised a great reference from the company, and his boss has offered him a personal reference too. His boss also called him today and gave him three contacts who might have suitable openings, which is encouraging, and shows he's well thought of.
Thanks again, concentrating on having a breather and giving some thought to where we go from here.

Hi Sharon, just wanted to say that I'm sorry to hear your bad news. I do believe that things happen for a reason, sounds like your hubby was overdoing it and maybe would have burnt himself out.
A better job will come along and you'll be spending more time together. Good luck and have a fab trip away.

Re: A moan. Don't ask me about moving to Canada today
I have been made redundant twice in my life so I know how your hubby must be feeling right now.
I was walking around dazed for a few days thinking that my life was over but after the initial shock I realised that it was a blessing in disguise as I moved on to jobs better than the one I was made redundant from.
It's funny how things work out in life, but I can honestly say if I wasn't made redundant from my first job, I certainly wouldn't be here in Canada today.

Had a bit of a shocker today. My OH joined a big US company in Kelowna, worked his socks off to gain Canadian qualifications, passed them all, then worked six days a week 7.30am to 8pm to meet his targets. It was frowned upon if he even took national holidays off...even Boxing Day. He was working such stupid hours there was no way I could take a job.
He's been with them just under twelve months, and we had a call this morning to say he's being 'let go' today.
So, don't ask me about moving to Canada today....feeling like I want to get on the next plane out. Not back to the UK, but anywhere apart from here.
Sure after the dust settles I'll be more reasonable about it, but right now....grrrr.

Sorry to hear your news. I agree with the other posters that this could be a blessing in disguise
Have a great holiday and come back refreshed - a much better job will soon appear

Thanks, yes, it so does. Positive is that he has a string of Canadian qualifications to add to his English ones, so hopefully he'll get another job asap. We're thinking about taking a camping trip as we haven't had a break since he started the job - even Christmas was only one day for us.
Sure it's for the best in the long run, but right now, I am so cross.

That sucks. But, hell, you dont want him working for assholes like that anyway, do you?
I wish you well finding a new and better employer, he shouldnt find it too hard with canadian qualifications and experience if he still wants to work here.

Sorry to hear about your bad news
I'm a firm believer though that things in life happen for a reason, hopefully he'll end up with a better job with better employers.
Good luck

Hi there Sharon,
Sorry to hear that news. Been there, got the t-shirt (similar shape and size but different colour).
Tell OH to understand that there's a lot more of "it's not you, it's them" over here. Much more of that cut/chop/axe kinda thing. Better not to take it personally, it's just the way it is here. "Use and abuse". Resilience and being able to bounce back are essential.
Knowing the labour market, a decent guy should have good prospects...there's not a lot of skill and experience out there right now.
Keep at it, if it is all meant to be, then it will be so.

Re: A moan. Don't ask me about moving to Canada today
As many have already said, this will be a blessing in disguise. I worked like that in the UK and the main reason for moving to Atlantic Canada was to not get into that particular rut again.
Now he has the extra qualifications and the Canadian job market experience coupled with the personal references I am sure he will go on to find a better job that he should be able to push back a little more and make family time. If not move out east

What a rough deal.
I really hope that another job comes along soon. I am sure it will, especially with the additional qualifications and experience.
You have the force of BE behind you too
