Mice...I think, in our walls
#1
T'other night we heard some scratching, scurrying noises coming from our L/room wall, next to the fireplace, which i'm guessing are mice.
Next day i come home from work, and smell a uriney type smell coming from said area, and cut a hole in the wall, and remove a section of plasterboard, polystyrene insulation and fibreglass insulation, but no trace????
So tonight i set some traps in there, as well as the loft? (sorry attic) with peanut butter as bait.
Anyone elase had mousey problems and can perhaps guide me on this???
Funny thing is, I was speaking to a Canadian last week who looked at me like some sort of weirdo, when i said i'd never tried peanut butter...... EVER.... and there i was, at Sobey's, today buying it.
I didn't realise there was so much choice with peanut butter!!!! What do mice like best?????

When using snap-traps:
a small amount of bait is better than a large amount
half a raisin wedged onto the bait pedal is good - make them work to remove it
set them in pairs - if the mouse jumps across the first he'll get nailed by the second

We set some traps in our trailer when we had mice and found them rather partial to bagels!

.After a while I just got used to having mice in the walls and rabbits under the floor and stopped worrying about it. But then I was renting so it wasn't my problem
.Edit: best bait I ever found was mouse poison. Leave a tray of it on the floor and you'll find them playing in it in the morning... they just can't get enough of the stuff, it's like a kid finding the keys to McDonalds'. Of course it doesn't actually seem to kill them, just makes them fat.

Well it's definitely mice, one of the traps in the attic was a success.
There doesn't seem to be any evidence of them inside the house...just the wall space and attic.

As weather gets colder expect more of them!!!!

Lol, I guess I've lived in the country and Asia for all my life...so mice have just been one of those things.
The only trouble with cats is they can't kill the things if they just use the cupboards (unless you leave all your cupboards open). I've never used poison. To many animals I like.
The best thing I've found are the plastic traps with a big V on them (sorry i can't find a pic of them). You have to put them against the wall (and they do recommend using peanut butter...the mice seem to have no preference...so go with the cheapest), there are several great things about the traps.
1. They are very easy to set, and you have almost 0 chance of getting your fingers trapped in them.
2. Easy disposal, just pick up the trap by the back open the bin, and pinch. Mouse falls out.
3. They work well
In Malaysia we use to use those sticky pads, I had drowning the blinking things...however Malaysian mice wouldn't be killed by something as wimpy as a trap.

I dont think cats are the answer, as they're in the attic and walls.
So far i've only trapped one, but i can still here another.....or others

We had mice in our walls and attic and the cat was useless. The mice could not smell the cat so they would stay and the cat could not catch the mice. Find out what is attracting them to your home and their point of entry.
Also mice deserve no sympathy. KILL WITH EXTREME PEJUDICE! All other animals are cool.

Sadly it is that time of year that the little darlings come inside and make nice warm homes for themselves in your house!
Keep on top of the trapping and you will hopefully get rid of them...... maybe
