North Americans do see to have a problem with savoury spreads though, and an obsession with sweet stuff. Which is why they pour sugar all over their sausages, etc.

An Australian colleague brought in Vegemite for everybody to taste this week .... I wish I had known, as I would have brought Marmite and we could have had a taste-off!

In the event, none of the Canucks would eat his offering anyway, (unadventurous lot!), so I shared it with him ... the Vegemite and cheese combination was ALMOST as good as Marmite!

Make cheese pastry, spread with Marmite, roll up and cut into slices - place "pinwheels" on baking sheet and pop in the oven til pastry cooked. Yummylicous! I have a whole Marmite cookbook!!

So do I. Which is why I spent $6.99 on a small jar at the english shop in Niagara on the lake when we visited.

I tollerate marmite when I can't get hold of Bovril...
