Default Manitoba border guards

Just saw this on the news thought it was quite funny!

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manito...ob-action.html

It states in the article they already wear a badge - so how is changing that badge to include their names any more unsafe?

I think it's a case of 'if people know our names we lose power'.

But they want guns. Can you imagine letting this lot loose with firearms?

I find it amusing that such people are worried about the General Public knowing their names, for security reasons.

Personally, I'd have made a bigger fuss about being asked to wear a bullet-proof vest. "Hold on a minute... are you suggesting that I now need to wear body armour? Riiiiiiiight, let's talk about this pay-rise, shall we...?"

Manitoba is a busy place today apparently.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manito...-manitoba.html

First offence drink drivers will also be required to get a 'drunk test ignition' fitted to their vehicles at their cost.

Concern for me is if someone who is not the registered owner of vehicle gets caught what happens to owners car?

It's like when the filth go on riot duty and cover up their numbers even though they aren't really supposed to.

I know someone who had this fitted to his car. It was bloody dangerous as he had to blow at regular intervals while driving.

I would have assumed it was start up only that doesn't sound too promising!

What's more dangerous drink driving or blow driving! Nevermind.

Paranoia? Have there been many instances of the public tracking down CBSA officers?

Why not give them a pool of names to choose from, rather like Delhi call center workers. Fred and Jim etc. If one particular name proves overly popular then you could end up with Fred 1, Fred 2 etc !

Dont get me started on this issue
I can give reasons why we should wear name tags and I can give reasons why we shouldnt.
I accept that some Police forces wear them but others dont.
We have been wearing a badge identifier number for over the 23 yrs I have worked for CBSA the same as lots of Police forces do.
A badge number can be covered up/blacked out the same as a name tag.
Why not give us a name tag that also includes our home address, phone number and email address and make it easier for those who may wish to cause us harm and subject other members of my family to potential violence and harrassment.
Yes I also accept that they could wait for me outside of work as well or recognize me on the street.
We are not seeking to be anonymous as some claim as we have always worn a badge identifier number.
The people who make these policies do not work on the front line doing our job nor do the labour bodies or courts or governing bodies who decide on cases brought before them.
The same argument has been made as why do we need to carry guns or batons or OC spray and handcuffs though those items fall under the protection of the public and the individual officer.
Up until the 17 Oct 2012 there had been only one reported case of a CBSA officer being shot at then on the 17 Oct 2012 a female CBSA officer was shot in the neck but luckily survived.
I was at work yesterday and I wore my name tag.
You have your opinions on this as I have mine.

PS we are not ****ing Border Guards we are Border Services Officers.

Probably not but perhaps because their true names have not been available for all and sundry to see.

Perhaps one should ask the question why do you need to know my name?
There are many occupations that require staff to wear a name tag and many that dont. Why is that?
Do you need to know the name of the guy that pumps your gas, the guy who rents you your movies, the person who installs your new home theatre system etc etc etc.
There are those who say what does it matter so if it doesnt matter why wear a name tag or if it does matter then we should all wear a name tag.
If you work in an occupation that may involve arresting a person for an offence and then that person is prosecuted and convicted and sent to prison
then you will have a different outlook to those not working in such an occupation.

It depends on whether you view your job as a "customer service" job or as a "paramilitary border defence" job. One of those mindsets would likely be averse to wearing a name-tag, I agree.
