For those that read the above and think it sounds as though they are taking over lol, you have to meet his family. Her rationale was that Darcy and I have been through so much crap recently that its the least they can do to make our day special, and that we all get to hang out together and just have fun for a few days amongst other things!!!
I am so goddam excited that I will not sleep tonight.

My daughter married in Vegas. Of course, she lived there at the time. She had the wedding at the Rio Casino in one of their chapel rooms and the dinner reception at the Voodoo Restaurant on the top floor of the hotel. The disco is on the roof for dancing after the meal. It was one of the best weddings we've ever attended.

We came very close to a 'Vegas wedding, until we found out it would be cold that time of year so did the beach thing instead
It sounds fab Mands.
Anyhoo about the name change thing, I did my daughters online, cost about 25 quid at the time, must be able to do a similar thing here?

I don't think anyone has said it seems like his family are taking over - that must have been your thought on the matter. You also thought initially that the whole Vegas thing sounds tacky. Take a moment to actually think if it is what you want - you seemed pretty made up by the original plan.

After being brought up on a council estate with pretty much nothing, i'm used to not aspiring for things, because you never got it.
Sometimes it would be nice to have something but thats as far as it went.
So in my true frugal nature to do the wedding on a budget (especially as finances are tight at the mo anyway) to me would be a success. (and ultimately i'm marrying my soulmate so it doesn't really matter how right!)
Then Darcy suggested Vegas, and my first thought was
expense and why go somewhere to do something we can do here?????Then I speak to sis in law, who is totally "are two frickin kidding me woman, you guys need a day that you can look back on and have fun doing, stuff the expense hubby and I are paying now let loose for once in your life"
And as soon as I got my head around that and reality sunk in that "hang on, I get to wear a proper dress, we go somewhere warm and it's going to be the wedding of a lifetime!!!!!"
Following research on the internet Vegas isn't all about Elvis and showgirls, but we'll for sure have an amazing time away as well taking in a show etc.

Be aware that Vegas is no longer even vaguely economical. Last time there dinner for four at Bouchon ran me nearly nine hundred bucks. Most dinners ended up being $100 a person.

packed lunch anyone? What we will spend out there for 4 days will be what we would have spent on things here so I justify it like that.
AND I NEED A GODDAM HOLIDAY SO THERE

OK update time!!!!!
Having researched a little more I have decided that not all of the places in vegas are as tacky as some movies make them seem, there's some beautiful packages where you can get wed in the mountains etc!! So I thought i'd call Darcys sis in law to see what she thought of the whole idea.
So spoke to Darcys sis in law at length on the phone - her and her hubby (Ducks brother) have been planning this Vegas thing for a couple of days
and mentioned it to Darcy tonight, who then ran the idea by me - which prompted my earlier questions!!!! I had no bloody idea the three of them had discussed this before and wanted to know what I would say to the idea before railroading with the plans!!!!!
They want to pay for the flights etc to Vegas and a honeymoon suite as a wedding gift, they are coming, and Darcys parents too, we'll hire the outfits (so I get to wear a proper dress!!!!!!!!) and most importantly I get to marry my babes in a truly amazing day to remember (not by Elvis!!!!!).
She's also tentatively arranged for someone to look after the animals.

& all well intentioned & not offended if someone says no.

My only trip to Vegas was on the cheap, but I still visited some great places -no need for it to by CSI type tacky.
Personally - if time / money & inclination allow - a trip to Grand Canyon is great. View of the city at night is great though.
Otherwise, have a blast - it sounds like they love you both & want a great day - enjoy it.
