Late CTV news last night (Thurs)
Did anyone watch the late CTV news last night? I was on the phone with the volume turned down. They were showing black and burnt out compact fluorescent bulbs, those curly ones. I have all compact fluorescent bulbs in my house and I am wondering what it was all about.
My girlfriend said she saw part of it and it was something to do with when those curly bulbs are about to burn out, they overheat and can catch fire. She said they said something about not using them in closed light fixtures or outside. I have some in close light fixtures and some outside. Everyone is pushing these light bulbs and I would really like to know if they are dangerous.
If anyone saw the show - can you let me know. I have looked on CTV and while Global streams their news, I can't find any streaming news on CTV.

The advice not to use outside or in closed fittings (or on a dimmer circuit) has always been on the packaging as far as I am aware.

I dont think its a safety issue though, they will just get hotter without air circulating to cool them and will fail sooner, so you dont get nearly as much life as you pay for. No less safe than a regular incandescent anyway I would think.
