Looks like it's not available here - certainly not in the local flyer. Shame that.
Fresh NZ lamb was $9.99/lb in Costco last week so $4.99 would be a veritable bargain.

Does your Costco have this. Many people find it offputting a whole lamb on display hanging up next to the butter, frozen pizza etc but I think they are about $110.

Yes, but (& I think I've posted about this before), how does one process an entire frozen lamb so you can eat it in portions? Thaw the thing out in which case you have to eat it all straight away or use a jig/bandsaw on the frozen meat?

EDIT: Found a Reddit thread in the subject. So, yes, bandsaw needed.... https://www.reddit.com/r/Frugal/comm...an_it_be_done/

I've been doing Sobeys a disservice. Found today that NZ leg of lamb is, indeed, being sold at $4.99/lb. So bought the very last one to cook over the Christmas period.

It was all I could do to restrict myself to 2. But we already had half a dozen shanks (Christmas dinner) and a short leg in the freezer and if I'd bought more, it wouldn't fit.

Save $3 lb the little notice in store said but I don't believe Sobeys has ever had it for only $7.99 lb (maybe a decade ago). Superstore has in the form of boneless leg, held together by netting and not very good.

Next problem is how to cook it well. But that's for after xmas. Slow cooked shanks are fantastic and came out well last time, hence the change from turkey this year.

The frozen stuff from down under is best after a 7 hour slow and low roast.

The citrus braised lamb shanks from the River Cottage Meat Book, reprised here:

work very well.

Thanks. I think, for now, I want to repeat how I did them previously before experimenting further.

It was the full leg I was really wondering about. I've never done one of those before. Perhaps a set up a spit out the back after the snow's gone.

That is a decent price. I tend to buy from Superstore when I can get them half price. The racks are decent enough. I usually cube and curry those boneless legs.

Dominion (Superstore where you are) had fresh Australian lamb short legs and boneless legs joints on for a reasonablish price today. Not sure exactly how much per lb but price was enough to think “oh I might try that for a treat” if I hadn’t already bought a frozen one from Sobeys.
