I bought a ladder today - a proper one to get onto the roof of the house so that I can remove some bits of tree that seem to be stuck there. Never thought I'd own a Ladder - but there you go, the wonders of owning a house in this country.

In time, if you persevere, you might own a cherry picker driven by your tractor's PTO. Now that would be impressive, that would validate your emigration.

I never had call to rent one of these for a spot of gardening until I moved to Canada.......

Congratulations, you’ll be getting a wheelbarrow next. I actually consider myself as somewhat an expert when it comes to ladders as I once owned over 150 of the damn things. From little 16’ jobbies with extendable feet up to big 40’ ones that took a couple of people to move around safely. You might need a pair of ladder mitts if you’re going to be resting it against the siding.

I was just wondering, yesterday, having so far managed to push the thought from my mind every time it occurred .....
How the devil are we going to change a lightbulb in our "chandelier" which hangs at a great height from our vaulted ceiling.
We do have a ladder, but there is nothing nearby to lean it against .... hmmmmm ..... oh well, cross that bridge when we come to it ..... <goes back to changing the subject>
