Kill the Yorkies or not?
Now even though Im from Lancashire even I don't consider that our poor neighbours on the wrong side of the Pennines should meet this fate except one or two Leeds supporters.
The subject of this thread are 2 x Yorkshire Terriers named Pistol and Boo who belong to Johnny Depp. Allegedly Depp forgot to declare the 2 dogs to Australian Customs as you do and the authorities have now got involved. The Australian Minister for Agriculture in a very diplomatic tone told reporters
"If you start letting movie stars — even though they've been the sexiest man alive twice — to come into our nation (with pets), then why don't we just break laws for everybody?" Joyce said.
"It's time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States," he added.
Depp has been given 72 hours to remove the dogs back to the USA or they will be euthanized.
I guess he won't be on the invite list for the opening of the new movie being filmed in Australia

Re: Kill the Yorkies or not?
he "forgot" he had 2 dogs ............. but he "remembered" to collect them for cargo (or did his trophy wife carry them in her carry-on bag?)
sorry .......... he broke the law, so he either gets them out of the country in the time given him or I'm sorry, they suffer the same penalty that "ordinary Joe Blow" would be give
Just my opinion, of course
I do regret that 2 dogs have to suffer because their owner was either very stupid, or was trying to get around a law.

Re: Kill the Yorkies or not?
It does of course give us a new option for BE'ers requesting advice...."get a private jet mate" can now be the standard reply!
I don't think the poor little buggers need to get the chop, but he should be forced to repatriate them immediately and suffer a really eye watering fine, something that means something to him and sends a message to others. The thought that he thinks he is completely above Australian legislation is really insulting.
I don't like the general media attitude that it's all a bit of a jolly jape. Most annoying, if it were me with Polly in my bag, they'd hang me out to dry.

Not really forgot, so much as smuggled them in on his private jet and hoped he would get away with it. Let's be honest it's only because he's Johnny Depp that he's being given the option to send them home. Anyone else's pooch would have been on a one way trip to Doggie Heaven by this point.

What did he have to gain by "forgetting" to declare them? Genuine question..

A million USD, persona non grata in Oz until paid, dogs adopted out if he doesn't claim them and the cash to SPCA, what I'd choose. I'm not prejudiced against moneyed actors per se, just those with a false sense of entitlement, like Justin Bieber abandoning his monkey,

Re: Kill the Yorkies or not?
wasn't there a big movie star who tried to get her dog into the UK in the days when the animals had to go into 6 month quarantine????
TBH ..... I don't see Depp as a "yorkie" man. I bet they belong to his new wife!

If I was a millionaire actor, I'd just get my assistants to do the pre-travel procedures!!

Re: Kill the Yorkies or not?
I looked up some prices last year, and hiring a private jet looks like it can be reasonably affordable for a bunch of people travelling together, particularly if you can find one which has to go where you're going but doesn't have anyone who wants to pay full price.
