Can I ask why Brits are wishing Americans Happy Independance Day (other than being friendly and neighbourly which I can understand)? I never understood this one. In the UK you even see people (non-Americans but Brits) celebrating American Independance Day and not realising what they are actually celebrating. Seems bizarre to me.

It's relevant round these parts - shops are closing at 6pm, most of my neighbours are off work... and any bangs we hear from across the river will likely be fireworks tonight not gunshots
