Job interview follow up - how long do you wait?
#1
So here I am some 3 months after applying for a job and still waiting. And waiting. And waiting. Where once I was confident and doing The Secret, now I have cold feet which need warming.
For the background - I applied for a Federal job back in December; well me and 475 others. I got invited to test in January, passed that and got invited to interview (mid Feb) and felt that went really well. We had a post interview discussion where I was told the results would be mailed within a few weeks. Fast forward a month and I haven't heard a thing from them. How can one competition take so long??
I know I have been security checked as they called for an address check and I also know they contacted one of my references (who swears she only said nice things
). I emailed the interviewer once for an update (that was before the interview) but I am hesitant to email her again in case all 375 testers email her and she is peeved. But then again if I don't email her I will never know. And I am off on holiday soon and really want to know.
I have drafted and deleted about 10 emails as they all sound either desperate or cheesy. I need to get my confidence back and would welcome suggestions. Well, polite suggestions....

A confident person would email their friends for help

Still no word then I take it!
Maybe send just a wee email saying you are going on holiday and will be out of touch for a while in case they need to get in touch with you about anything? So you're not specifically asking them anything, just keeping them up to date!?!?
Time for a coffee meetup this week? OH still at home, looks like he will be here until the 11th of April. If I'd known, i would have arranged the housewarming for this wknd, but he was meant to be going last wknd, then end of this week. Bah humbug - some things never change!

I'd call them and make a polite inquiry about the timescale. Maybe gently hint that you wouldn't want to miss the opportunity should other options you're pursuing became available elsewhere.
It's not unreasonable after 6wks to want to know where you stand.

Thanks RICH. I don't know why but I am reluctant to phone - everything has been done by email so far; but maybe I should phone I am just afraid I may cry if they tell me the job is gone. I soo want that job.

E-mail's too easy to ignore or fudge back an answer. If it's a job you really want, make the effort to call
