Because she's a British woman of the same age as you?

It's the kids really... To know that your mother was murdered in such a brutal way. How do you cope with that? She was one of the good guys too.

Yes, the fact that she is just a young woman with kids, and just doing her job. It says she posted the times when she would be available to her constituents, and some b++stard shot her.

I can't see the news anymore, it's like the world has gone nuts...what with the death of these two police officers in Paris, and for no other reason than they were police officers, with a small child.

How very sad.

Equally shocked at the Paris police murders. Orlando. That Calgarian yachtsman. A grim week indeed.

Re: Jo Cox

It's deeply saddening for an MP, who has spent most of her life in the service of others and leaves behind a husband and two children, to be murdered on the street after a local constituency clinic. Perhaps I could be accused of living in a bubble coming from quaint Herefordshire but I don't think of England as traditionally having an intrinsically violent culture in politics. We tolerate a broad range of dissenting views and are not always a nation that readily seeks consolidation or unity but surely on the whole we draw a social agreement long before needless and cold blooded murder. It's important that MPs feel safe working in their local electorates and there are as few barriers to raising concerns with them directly in clinics as possible. Threats and violence towards those in public service should never be acceptable to us or them. I hope they can continue to put their constituencies and country first by continuing their outstanding work regardless of political affiliation. I think neither Police, MPs nor the British public would wish for armed guards to be present whenever an MP had a meeting with local constituents.

Initial reports seem to indicate it was a man with a history of mental illness who had affiliations with a far right group however I see no ground to me made discussing him and think it best we not give him the oxygen of publicity.

Perhaps it's possible at this point for the nation to sit down with a cup of tea and have a little think about what culture we wish Britain to have. We have been a great empire and perpetrated plenty of violence, I rather hope the legacy of post-war Britain and Northern Ireland is of a much more peaceful society and culture. Surely that's something we all see as imperative to us as a society.

Have a great weekend :).
