Because she's a British woman of the same age as you?

It's the kids really... To know that your mother was murdered in such a brutal way. How do you cope with that? She was one of the good guys too.

Re: Jo Cox

Yes, the fact that she is just a young woman with kids, and just doing her job. It says she posted the times when she would be available to her constituents, and some b++stard shot her.

I can't see the news anymore, it's like the world has gone nuts...what with the death of these two police officers in Paris, and for no other reason than they were police officers, with a small child.

How very sad.

Equally shocked at the Paris police murders. Orlando. That Calgarian yachtsman. A grim week indeed.

Re: Jo Cox

It's deeply saddening for an MP, who has spent most of her life in the service of others and leaves behind a husband and two children, to be murdered on the street after a local constituency clinic. Perhaps I could be accused of living in a bubble coming from quaint Herefordshire but I don't think of England as traditionally having an intrinsically violent culture in politics. We tolerate a broad range of dissenting views and are not always a nation that readily seeks consolidation or unity but surely on the whole we draw a social agreement long before needless and cold blooded murder. It's important that MPs feel safe working in their local electorates and there are as few barriers to raising concerns with them directly in clinics as possible. Threats and violence towards those in public service should never be acceptable to us or them. I hope they can continue to put their constituencies and country first by continuing their outstanding work regardless of political affiliation. I think neither Police, MPs nor the British public would wish for armed guards to be present whenever an MP had a meeting with local constituents.

Initial reports seem to indicate it was a man with a history of mental illness who had affiliations with a far right group however I see no ground to me made discussing him and think it best we not give him the oxygen of publicity.

Perhaps it's possible at this point for the nation to sit down with a cup of tea and have a little think about what culture we wish Britain to have. We have been a great empire and perpetrated plenty of violence, I rather hope the legacy of post-war Britain and Northern Ireland is of a much more peaceful society and culture. Surely that's something we all see as imperative to us as a society.

Have a great weekend :).

What did they say and what did you say?

Would it not be smarter to message the mod for clarification?

Well obviously I should not repeat what they said and the individual also asked for their post to be removed. I have no problem with the posts being removed.

I am furious that a moderator has publicly announced that I made an inappropriate comment on this thread as I would not be so disrespectful. And why should I message them when I have been humiliated on the forum.

Please do not feel so very upset.
All that need have been done was to hit the report button to alert one of us or to contact the mod or myself and let us know how it has appeared and so have the delete message adjusted.

What has likely happened is that in deleting more than one post at the same time , the same delete message has popped itself in to all the deleted messages. It would not have been personal to you .

I will adjust for you . No problem.

Re: Jo Cox

From the Guardian today.

Why didn't the Daily Mail put the jailing of Jo Cox's murderer on its front page? The story is relegated to page 30, where readers will look in vain to find any reference to the political context of the MP’s death.

When today’s Mail finally gets to the verdict on Mair, the main headline points out that he “wanted to kill his own mother”, while the secondary story asks: “Did neo-Nazi murder Jo over fear he’d lose council house...to an immigrant family”
Don't you just love the Mail?

Most newspapers (certainly not just the Guardian) cited the judge’s own verdict that Mair killed her to advance his violent white supremacist ideology rather than because he “suspected the MP might not have helped him” to fight the council’s bid to move him.
That there are people who lap up this daily mail garbage is as scary as the whole thing is sad. :(

But it's an extremely popular newspaper, just like Fox News and they can blatantly peddle fear politics because it gives us all a group that we can feel is to blame for our woes.

How does a single person in the UK end up with a 3 bedroomed council house....is this sort of thing common?

By continuing to live in it after parents have died. Couple of conditions like original tenancy date, whether it's already been passed on, having lived in it for last year, that sort of stuff.

It may not be the same with every council and relatively recent restrictions on "new" tenancies make just taking over less likely than previously.
