Jim Flaherty, dies at 64

Life and death is bigger than politics.

Here's to a man who loved his country.

Very shocking, very sad.

There's widespread delight in this office so I suppose he was a sort of Canadian Thatcher.

In my opinion, it doesn't matter which party you support, there should never be glee over someone's death. He was a man who worked for his country. He was a father of three boys. He's someone's neighbour and someone's husband and someone's friend. He's still a person who had a life.

Disagree with his views or political agenda all you want, but no one should ever be delighted over someone's passing.

While I'm not sure Jim Flaherty desires such snide remarks...I don't quite agree with the above.

When Gerry Adams knocks off I'll almost certainly be pleased.

I've never heard of him but why are all Canadian politicians fat?

Came as a surprise to me.

I always thought, he was younger than 64, though.

I thought he was a pretty decent politician, which is a rare thing indeed, you can't say he was corrupt although his support of Rob Ford did him no favours.

I did find it slightly creepy that he opposed CPP reform and died a few months before he could have claimed it.

Is it too early in this thread for Godwin?

James Flaherty was on medication - prednisone (a steroid) for a serious skin condition called bullous pemphigoid. Side effects of predinisone include bloating.

Chretien wasn't fat. Trudeau wasn't fat. The false impression that they're all fat has been created by Harper and Ford, two bloaters, neither of whom allows room on the screen for anyone else.

Totally agree, that's why I was disgusted to hear the delight and glee in some areas of the UK when Margaret Thatcher passed away... as you say just because you disagree with their politics shouldn't mean you should be pleased with their passing, disgraceful behaviour...even more so when you have murderers like Gerry Adams and Martin McGuiness trying to pass themselves off as politicians...
