Crikey, what do you declare on your customs form for that lot! :)

Hope it's all okay to bring into the country. When I was filling in the form I noticed it said something about dairy products. When I got to the counter I forgot I had cartons of baby milk in our luggage. The guy said it was no problem, but then added a very stern "please remember next time".

That's not good as most of what he's got is dairy products.

Chocolate should be OK shouldn't it? Dairy stuff such as milk, cheese, yoghurt etc fair do's but chocolate? I'd be more concerned about the gravy bones! Besides, I buy gravy bones in the supermarket here anyway. :D Hope it all gets through! Enjoy!

Yeah I think the chocolate should be ok because he brought some back last month, when he was over. But he did buy it from duty free  Oh well....what will happen, will happen

Poor pooch! He needs his gravy bones! Haven't been able to find any anywhere here in London, ON

What the heck are gravy bones? Do they contain real meat/bones?? Or are they a manufactured food? "Real" animal parts are not gonna be allowed methinks.

Edit: enjoy the choccie though!

They are just a dog biscuit with a dry gravy coating. I have an empty box at the bottom of my recycling bin (out of reach) so can't check contents but guessing theres some of meat content in the gravy.

As long as you declare it I think all of it is admisable, they have a web site which you can check

I bring in stilton every time I go to the UK as 'some' dairy products are allowed

just declare it they'll tell you if there is an issue and they'll be quite polite about it too..

I have to say, I think you should share some of that with a pregnant Brit nearby.... ;)

There are a couple of British shops in London, and you can get a few bits at Bulk Barn too. Actually, a friend told me the other day that there's a special temporary 'Taste of Britain' section in the Walmart at Argyle Mall at the moment. I'm not allowed to go there unsupervised :(

Well if we meet up soon, I'll be more than happy to share some. You'll have to be quick though or there will be none left!

That's interesting and provoked me to look on the CBSA website which directed me to inspection.gc.ca . It appears you can bring in upto 20kg of cheese if it has a value of $20 or less. Now, I know cheese is cheaper in the UK, but one imagines a whole stilton for example would cost rather more than $20. How does one get around that? (http://www.beaware.gc.ca/english/brirape.shtml refers)

My aunt lives just around the corner from one of the dairies/farms that make the Stilton..
and its what you pay for it that counts not its value in Canada :D

So a half round of stiltion about 1kg is approx $20

Howver they've never botherd the few times I've brought in a full round, granted we travel as a group of 4 so that might be why?

It would take me at least 5 years to eat all that crap, thats if I would even bother to eat it which I doubt. It just baffles me why any one would crave for such things:confused::confused:

It baffles me why you bother to post just to put her down for it.

We (my son in particular) get through jars of the stuff. It's on my weekly shopping list! Both our local Safeways and Extra Foods stock it.

$3.77 in Walmart when I bought there last time - nearly $8 in our local Sobeys which is a block nearer:eek:

Re: Jealous much?!

We brought a huge jar of Marmite from the UK and it's sitting in the back of the pantry hardly touched. Unfortunately, or fortunately, the kids have now gone right off it, prefering vile sickly stuff like Marshmallow Fluff on their toast.

I only ever eat it on toast when feeling hungover, which explains why there's so much left in the jar ;)

Enjoy all that chocolate :)

The things I can make out in that picture are Fox's biscuits, Cadbury's fingers and Maltesers, all of which I can get at the local Loblaw's/Canadian Superstore.

And not Canadian knock-offs either, imported but in Canadian packaging.

I don't honestly have a problem with the British food situation in Calgary, I can't think of anything I could get in the UK I can't get here (hmm, okay Thornton's truffles). Might be a bit more of a hassle sometimes.

My problem with it is more a lack of fresh food, everything is frozen and shipped in from God knows how far away.

How do you know they're not Canadian - is there something I'm missing? I've bought Maltesers from RCSS, they've never tasted like the British ones. Same for Cadbury Buttons, even though they say they're made in the UK :(

Yeah I've found that a lot. I even bought some irn bru from an expat shop but it was made in Toronto and tasted weird

Well just for everyone's future reference OH got everything back ok

'Everything' includes, loads of chocolate, biscuits, large bottles of Irn bru, lucozade, bisto, oxo cubes, deodorant (I don't like stick deo and the few aerosol ones I have bought have smelt like furniture polish, lol) and gravy bones for pooch. Was all declared and when he said to the customs person "I've got a suitcase full of pop and chocolate" She was like "Well you can't go home to England and not bring some of your great chocolate back can you?"

So I now feel sick but happy on Thorntons chocolate and bru :D

Hope you don't mind me asking but did OH get nailed for overweight baggage on the way back? My last "care suitcase" cost me big time, I told the family they better pace themselves with that lot. Made most of my purchases (blackcurrant & liquorice, jelly babies, dolly mixtures, battenberg etc.) the night before leaving at the local Morrison's. The lady at the checkout made some comment about me liking my sweeties to which I replied "I'm merely rectifying years of colonial deprivation":p

He had to pay $70 for an additional bag and $24 for for them both being 25 kilos
(combined) So wasn't too bad. Plus the fact that he put it on his company credit card ;)
