We pay $20, but that's cos we like him. It galls me to pay an hourly rate higher than many adukts get but It evens out over the heavy snow and light stuff and we did pay more when he shifted the 3in layer of ice. Still cheaper than a snow blower. E get him to mow thge grass in the summer too.

Found this chart of average snowfall in Toronto in the past 25 years - http://toronto.weatherstats.ca/charts/snow-25years.html. INteresting to see how much more we have this year as compared to other years... though I think this is for calendar years as opposed to winter seasons (so grouping January 2013 snowfall with December 2013 snowfall).

Making comparisons between years is dodgy. I tried to predict my total snowfall for the winter of 2007/8 by correlating pre-New Year and post-New Year data back to 1960 and then plugging the 2007 pre-New Year numbers into a regression analysis.

I ended up being monumentally wrong. It turned out to be one of the snowiest winters in recorded history.

I'm trying again this year. The model says 265cm. We've had 179cm so far. I may end up a bit closer to the mark this time.

This sounds amazing. I'd love to see it when it's done. I'm a huge nerd for this stuff. :)

Here is the Ottawa chart.

http://ottawa.weatherstats.ca/charts/snow-25years.html

the winter of 2007/2008 was the snowiest I've lived here with something like 435 cm.....2008 shows a lower figure as a huge amount of the 2007/2008 snowfall was in 2008 and I guess the fall/pre-christmas period of 2008 wasn't that snowy.

Often times, Gatineau airport registers an early morning colder temp than Ottawa international.....but I think snowfall totals are pretty close.

I think this winter has been the coldest overall since I moved here in 1994.

So we both have too much time on our hands, or are avoiding real work...........

Snowfall amounts and when seems to have such huge variation I gave up on "normal" except for how something compares to normal.

December was twice normal but we've had almost nothing since.

Three years ago we had 50% more than normal for the winter but the following winter about a third. Not a third more, a third of the normal amount. Or about a fifth of the previous year.

I don't think any winter here so far has matched "normal" in terms of month by month.

The pre-New Year snowfall for 2007/8 was a record. As was what came after New Year.

Gatineau Airport usually registers lower temps that Ottawa. Different topography (Gatineau Airport is much lower).

You can't compare the two places. Weather that hits Ottawa often misses me completely, even though we're only talking about five miles.

-25 and blowing snow in Regina but I stopped caring long ago. Also, I question the validity of groundhog science since the results tend to vary widely.

For the past two years I had a couple of young teenagers who would come around after every snow fall and ask if I wanted the sidewalk/driveway cleared, unfortunately this winter I haven't seen them once.

The two kids used to charge me $5 for the sidewalk or $7.50 for sidewalk, stairs and a path to the front door.

And potential snow coming Sunday/Monday but like any potential snow in Vancouver, could very well just arrive as rain....

For my area not far from Vancouver, it has yet to snow anytime it was in the forecast so I don't believe forecast's, just wait and see if it does snow.

Vancouver apparently broke a 66 year old cold temp record.

http://www.theweathernetwork.com/new...record-/20956/

Its -3 right now where I am with a -8 windchill.

Luckily if it does snow, I don't have to clear any snow anywhere.

This is correct, and yes you are right...I had to wear a toque yesterday to go for my usual lunch time run.
