Re: Indian Buffet Palace- Bayers Lake
I know that there is a Chinese buffet which is so so, but I didn't know there was an Indian one. I'd be interested to know where it is.

The food is good, more authentic Indian than Brit Indian so don't go there looking for a High Street Curry House experience. Vegetarian dishes predominate with one or two meat (chicken) dishes depending on the day. If you are looking for the restaurant experience then go to Curry Village on Dresden Row. If you just want an easy Friday night take out, without the hassle of driving to the down town core then Indian Buffet Palace is fine. For those of you familiar with the Edinburgh curry scene I would say it is somewhere between the original Kushi's and Kalpna. |

Re: Indian Buffet Palace- Bayers Lake
Well we tried the Buffet Palace last night and it was really good.
Doesn't look much..more kind of cafe/chippy style. When we arrived they brought some pakora to the table which was a bit different but really tasty. For main courses they had some veg dishes, biryani and Indian butter chicken with rice and naan. By the time we were leaving, the place was beginning to fill up.....i get the impression this place will really take off. And for $9.99 you cant go wrong:thumbup: |

To drift at a different ethnic cuisine tangent for a moment.....
I ate at 'Opa!' the Greek place at Bayers Lake on Monday night. It was OK but not as good (or at least as good as my memory of) the one in downtown Halifax. |

Re: Indian Buffet Palace- Bayers Lake
Been here a week and needing a curry so we tried this tonight. Food was quite good although not a huge choice (buffet) and no popadoms (maybe I'm being too British). We were the only ones there at first but another couple came in who said they go there every week and it's a different menu each time. No complaint with food but pricey!!! We are two adults and three child
ren (11, 8 and 4) who between them ate one and a half naan breads - didn't even like the plain rice there. Total bill - $65!! and we each had one soft drink. Compared to East Side Mario's or Montana's where the bills were similar, this is no way value for money if you have kids! If the guy in charge had reduced the charge to reflect the fact that little children don't eat that much (ours all look at least 2/3 years younger than they are) we would go back - but as it is, it's just not worth it. Just mentioning it because I know a few of you have kids too. |

Whereabouts on Bayers Lake is this? I have seen the Greek Restaurant but never noticed this, and would like to try it. Been here since November and we havnt had a decent curry!
How are you doing Merry, have you settled in OK? Lisa |
Re: Indian Buffet Palace- Bayers Lake
Hi
It is behind Jungle Jim's in Bayer's lake. Food was good but not a great variety and expensive - however, when you really fancy a curry, it does just fine. Lisa - we're settling in well - the movers brought all our boxes yesterday so the house is now absolute chaos! The children are enjoying the snow though. We've managed to do most of the basic things - SIN cards, MSI forms, etc. We still have one car to buy and are driving to Tatamagouche tomorrow to see one - good excuse to see something of the rest of NS. Everyone here has been really helpful and friendly though. Will get in touch again soon and we can maybe meet up - we can only be about five minutes away from you, Aileen |
Re: Indian Buffet Palace- Bayers Lake
Thanks for that Merry!! Think we will give it a try as we are always in Bayers Lake for one thing or another!
Wow, you have done so well with your move! How have you found the weather? It hasn't been half as bad as we were expecting, but up to yet we have had a good winter apparently. Whereabouts have you settled, are you in Halifax? We are in Tantallon. Get in touch when you are settled and we will definitely meet up! Lisa |
