Default Income Tax

Netfiling open today.

A couple of observations from me.

I used WealthSimple Tax (previously Simple Tax). It was always "free" but you were invited to pay what you wanted. It's still the same but it just looks like it's not, if you see what I mean.

I do returns for three and I have been used to saying NIL payment on the first ones and then making a single payment on the final one. There used to be something that said "why don't you want to pay" or something like that and I just used to say I was paying on the last one.

Now it suggests $20/$30/$40/$50 and there's a "continue" button. Only with the next box you can see you have the opportunity to just close it, your tax return having been submitted. So if you're pushed for cash, you can still take advantage of the free service. It's still my favourite one to use.

On a general point, this is the first year I used the function to transfer T forms from CRA.

But when I came to proceed I noticed there were boxes that were not transferred and I had to make an entry from the paper versions.
I don't know if it was supposed to transfer but a T5 for bank interest didn't transfer, possibly because the issuer was the bank?

All in all I felt more comfortable physically completing the boxes and being sure it was all done.
Plus there was a problem with CRA's security code input on my first go. I got the code, entered it and a new window opened asking me for the code that had been sent. No new one arrived so I entered the same number again and it didn't like it. I asked for another number and this time I accidentally pressed to disconnect the call when I picked up the phone.

I used the function to request another and it didn't respond.

Something similar happened to my SD when she was doing hers.

Maybe in future I'll just note the access code from my NOA so I can enter that and just do data input from the T form. From next year my return is mostly non T form income anyway.
