Im not saying it wont ever be privatized but would love to see a company take it over and see what their initial costs for running CBSA would be.
Sort of like G4S at the London Olympics;)

Actually G4S don't do passports at scihpol airport but they do security so it's only a step away

My comment was based on the cost overruns of the security at the London Olympics. I can just imagine a company like G4S saying we can provide border security for X amount per year and then saying ah we got it wrong and the Govt needs to pony up X amount of millions.

CATSA the Govt agency responsible for passenger pre screening boarding aircraft domestic or international already contract out to security firms such as Garda and Avion. Have you ever seen their turnover rate and retention of staff due to almost paying them minimum wage and not very good benefits.
You get what you pay for I guess.

This is all about saving money, there are passport offices all over the place and with the ten-year passport they want to shut some of them down.

Getting a NEXUS card does help but you still need under IATA rules to show a passport at check-in and the gate when flying internationally.
