Salmond may be trying to cloud peoples judgment, however Cameron, as usual, is trying to slip around the back door and have everyone else do his grunt work for him. At least Salmond is trying something, what's Cameron doing to avoid the break up ??

Not sure that Cameron has all the responsibility you suggest. Although he's PM, he's not directly Scottish, so he lacks credibility in the debate. Also, as PM, his declarations come across a bit paternalistic. Alistair Darling could be doing a bit more for the No camp.

In reality it's not actually that important to Cameron. In private he is almost certainly looking at it from a Conservative Party point of view. Scotland pushing off would make it far harder for Labour to ever win a general election.

I get that he feels it's a Scottish decision, and it is, however, he's still the major figure in Westminster and needs to say his bit, but he won't as there has been enough press to suggest the Tories feel they are better off without Scotland, so they could work on their majority in the house. They may consider themselves to be well shot of their neighbours, but the UK may suffer in the end. Sadly, I live in the only Tory seat in Scotland.
