That's a long time to be traveling. Wouldn't a direct flight be worth the extra?

2nd choice with the lowest fare, direct flight Air Transat $762 (winter schedule few flights) Jan 19 -Feb 3, doesn't meet my dates.
Other airlines all have connecting flights and are more than Iceland Air

I didn't think the transit time was too bad, actually. Outbound journey is 9 hours and change; return is 10½ hours. That's only a couple more than a direct flight, for a significant saving. I haven't flown with Icelandair, but I know a couple of people who have and found it a (relatively) pleasant experience, as much as any transatlantic flight is these days. As long as no Icelandic volcanoes are misbehaving, it seems like a good option to me.

I fly this exact route regularly and can't recommend Icelandair enough. A little longer travelling time, but there is an excellent selection of in flight entertainment, and while you have to pay extra for the food its reasonably priced and of a good quality for airplane food.
The main attraction for me however is that it is the only airline left with a two 23kg bag luggage allowance as standard for transatlantic flights. Over the years it has saved me a fortune in extra baggage charges!

Definitely not Icelandair, just a lady who flies with them a lot. I lived in Iceland for a while between my two IEC visas, and am getting married to my Canadian OH in Reykjavik next year.
I do prefer to fly direct when possible (my best deal was MAN-YYZ for a little over £300 with Air Transat in 2011) but as I said before the luggage deal you get with Icelandair is great when you're hauling your whole life around in two suitcases.
I may just be biased though, as I met the employer for the best job I've ever had on a KEF-YYZ flight when our seats were assigned next to each other!

The point of my OP was 'is this a good deal' for regular off season cheap flights with a 1-2 hr wait, the cost is way lower than the big airlines which I believe you cannot fly directly YYZ to MAN.
I will fly cheap cattle class if it saves me ~$100 or more, rather than fly YYZ -LHR-MAN on AC/BA cattle class which is at least a 12 hr flight or have to go YYZ to a place in Europe then fly west back to Manchester. YYZ to MAN is not well served by the major airlines
Of course there is the USA route YYZ - MAN through Philadelphia, again a layover & more expensive
Icelandair serves its purpose.
As for direct with Transat - they are the worse of the worse.

Clucking Bell, direct flights YYZ-LHR (& then of course you've got to get up norf) on AC are coming out at $1600. For that diff, I'd fly via Iceland too. My favourite flight planning tool is ita.matrix search Matrix - ITA Software . Interestingly enough that brings up the next cheapest option of Jet Airways via Brussels. Wouldn't have thought of flying a loco Indian carrier to the UK from Canada but there you go.
TATL travel is so much easier for me. It's Air Canada direct at whatever the price because it's too painful to fly in the wrong direction for 1.5-3.5hrs before heading across the pond.

Funny though, the price is cheaper going directly to the Icelandair website for the dates in my OP than what you see on some of the other 'flight' search engine websites
Cheap Flights - Compare Airline Tickets with Skyscanner.ca
Cheap Flights with Flight Network - Affordable Airline Tickets and Cheap Flights
update
Just back on the Icelandair website & in just 48hours the price has changed again. Its now $870. So I guess the other two flight search engines are up to date matching iceland air.
If I keep the same outbound date & change the return date the price drops. Or move the dates around.
The Icelandair web page is easy to use compared to some of the other web searches
