iced rain in Ontario and beyond
How are we doing so far? I am stuck at work. Various shift changes due to bad driving conditions mean a 24 hour stint for me, hopefully with a spot of zzz in the middle.

The tree in our back garden is touching the deck, and some parts at the rear have broken off. Other than that, walking the dog was interesting and my commute to work tmw will be slow and dangerous i expect.

Interesting drive to work the past two mornings. 0430 hrs start instead of the usual 0530 hrs. Took a little more than twice the normal journey time, but I got there ok. Just a matter of allowing the extra time and driving in accordance with the prevailing road surface and weather conditions. Hardly rocket science. Having said that, but for work I would not have ventured out onto the road at all other than an emergency.

Ouch. Hope you can get some sleep soon. Not sure I could do a 24 hour shift and stay awake.

I saw the front steps were iced up last night, so I salted them.
But now they're well covered by the start of our third big snowfall already.
Hopefully I won't break my neck or something when I go out to shovel shortly.

I'm 19 floors up and not planning on going out for several days until it's over.
I hate ice, I'm just happy that all this has happened when I'm off work and don't have to deal with it.
Our outside temp gauge claims it is above zero degrees. It has ice hanging from it. I think it may be telling porkies

Snowboarded all day yesterday and the conditions were fantastic.
Just watched the Spurs game and relaxing on my sofa.
The gym have posted that they are open although I've heard there is some problem with the TTC.
Just about to venture out for a coffee. if the coffee shop is closed then all hell really will freeze over.

Experienced a little freezing rain my first year at work, walking across the parking lot I could see the rain hitting the ground and freezing
Ice terrifies me , one of our maintenance guys virtually carried me to my office !
Bens out at the moment , he's described the conditions downtown as " crunchy rather than slick "

Been out to shovel. As I moved the snow off the steps there was a half inch thick layer of ice underneath but it was breaking up as I shoveled. The salt did it's work.
Could have been the snow 'warming' it up (as well) I s'pose, but there were ice pellets too so maybe not.
But a ridge of ice all the way down the handrail.

Just watching TO city hall briefing w/ Kelly and Ford and an annoying reporter keeps asking who has final say. After being ignored once, it's clarified - Ford gets to call a state of emergency or not. As hydro gets restored it all depends on the weather, and trees continue to fall. A good wind could wreck everything.
20 community housing high-rises are without power and 2 hospitals are on emergency generators. Some areas may not get hydro restored until Christmas.
250,000 without power, 401 corridor hit hard including the Ford family's houses. Rob hasn't looked this good in a long time. He's going to claw back a few points here, predicting a worse disaster and urging conservation of electricity and emergency supplies.

several neighbourhoods here are without power. We've not lost anything (yet) except a few branches off trees at the back of the yard. Our neighbours' tree in their front yard split in two; the bit that fell off arched over the car parked on the driveway, and must have been all of a quarter of an inch away from the roof and windscreen when we saw it this morning.
We've just acquired a new member of the household - a dog adopted from a rehoming agency (we think mostly a pointer/retriever cross, but with bits of other breeds in the mix somewhere). I reckon dog-walking in this weather is as good an introduction to Canadian pet ownership as we're going to get
Will be venturing into Toronto with the family this afternoon for a theatre trip. The theatre have said they're not cancelling the performance, and the tickets weren't exactly cheap, so we're bloody well going to go!
