Nope - they are written as follows:
Start at the Northeast corner of Highway 7. Walk 52 paces north to Miss so and so's land.. We asked and asked our realtor if this was really what we should have had and he said yes. We found out after we could have asked the sellers to provide a boundary map. However using the crappy walk this and then that way thing, the well they are drilling is on our land. We will see next week. We have always said we would get a boundary plan done, this probably just means it get's brought forward a bit! The problem with individuals measuring by their own paces is that those with longer legs have a longer pace than those with shorter legs. |

According to the ever-reliable Wikipedia :p, a pace is exactly 1.48m or 58.1 inches.

That cannot be so. Obviously in metric it'll be some weird number so 1.48 is as good as any other random metriced thingy but in measurements it has to make sense, it'll be some exact number of feet.

According to the link, it was apparently standardised as 5 Roman feet. I guess Roman legs were shorter in those days.
Perhaps we should use their hands? spans? members? |

I'm confused, are we using their legs or their feet to measure????
Perhaps we should use their hands? spans? members? Gees if we go by Roman times then in 1700 years the peni will have increased in size - now wheres that time machine................... |

OK, I know I'm short, but I would have to leap to do 1.48m in a single pace - I thought a pace was a single striding step, the only way to get 1.48m would be to do two huge steps for me.

Coffee keyboard moment - we could have a whole new unit of measurement - the peni. Now what shall we set it at 5,6,7,8 inches maybe more?
