I haven't seen a bear yet.

It's quite annoying.

- I live in a "bear area"
- We have a compost bin and humming bird feeders.
- Apparently the neighbours have seen loads of them around.

I thought I'd be inundated with the things by now, but whilst there is some bear shit on our land, I still haven't seen one in the flesh. I know el_richo's father in law keeps them as pets, but you'd think there would be one or two left to sniff around our decomposing veggies.

Still, we do have lots of strawberry plants in flower - hopefully that'll attract them when they start to have some fruits on. Though I'm in two minds on this cos I want to actually eat some of them myself.

Get a few apple trees, plum trees, bird seed filled tables and you might have some better luck. Also leave used fish packaging or meat packaging lying around outside in your line of sight. The sit and wait

At my FIL's they're usually around between 6am and 7am, and again between 7pm and 8pm ish. They randomly appear through the day but the former times are more reliable.

The only problem is once they find food source in a place they'll pretty much spend lots of time passing through there, which is nice the first couple of times and then pretty scary onwards since it's not so much fun when they're sitting next to your car waiting to rape the shit out of you

there's lots of them around Vancouver. There's a little rock near Bowen Island that they all sit out on and bask in the sunshine. There's even one that comes up onto the dock if you feed it fish heads. They don't look very scary though.

Yes that's what he looked like exactly. But I think you just may be a superior practitioner with aforesaid shooty thing.

I think my image stabilization system is finding delerium tremens a trifle challenging.

Can't you just get four chunks of rib-eye and some bear traps?

Well done you.

Looks like you made those sharpness and contrast changes I suggested. Am I correct?

This.

Our place in Robert's Creek has half a dozen apple trees, a peach tree and loads of vines. In the fall we host a bear feast. If only the b****rs would use the drive rather than walking straight through the back fence.

Ha, my FIL has a gap in his side fence for that very reason. I think he got fed up with repairs.

Not sure how your trees are holding up but 2 of his plum trees have been destroyed.

What's the law on bears? I mean, if one of them plunders your apples trees with so much as a polite request, are you allowed to shoot it and turn it into a nice manly rug?

You don't want to approach it, just call the park ranger and remember not to leave your picnic hampers out on the table while you've gone off for a piss.

Very good. But would that involve a visit within Walmart?

Because if so, I'll pass.

My 2 children and I saw one when we were running on the POCO trail on Victoria Day. Thankfully it was a fair distance away and by the time we got over the bridge it went into the undergrowth. Although my youngest wanted to go looking for it and said "we should have brought it some honey"

Not sure how I would feel getting up close and personal to it!!!

we have been here for 2 years nearly, saw one the first week we arrived, although very briefly on the side of the main highway, last place we expected to see one, nothing since, although there have been sightings at the end of our road.

Ken also posts on the Canon, photography-on-the-net site, in the birds forum. His shots have always been impressive.
