Default Hurricane Sandy

May make a big mess in the center of the Universe, Toronto of course.

True, but you need piccies

Anybody doing what the Red Cross advises and stocking up? I need more tonic and some lemons. Can't think of anything else.

Every time I look at the weather websites they seem less convinced that anything at all is going to happen in these parts. Rainfall prediction is way down, wind predictions are still a bit breezy, but nothing that will send me out to panic-buy tins of spam. The kids are still adamant that they'll be out on Wednesday evening trick-or-treating, come hell or high water. I'm not inclined to tell them any different at this stage.

We went out for a brisk walk by the lake yesterday morning. A reporter and cameraman for The Weather Network were doing a piece to camera with a rather grey and blustery Lake Ontario in the background. She called us over and asked if we'd mind being interviewed for an "as live" piece to be broadcast later; the kids' eyes nearly popped out of their heads with glee at the prospect of being on the telly. Oh, the disappointment as we watched the most boring TV in the world for an hour or so when we got home and the realization dawned that their star turns had ended on the cutting room floor

Seems to change by the hour. I do not have any Halloween candy. Only the good stuff sent to me in an aid parcel, which I'm not prepared to share. This can only mean that there will be hoards of children at our door on Wednesday wanting some...

Just line 'em up and give 'em each a shot of rye.

One suggestion I had was to give them batteries and bottles of water from the emergency kit

Same here. The threat gets downgraded by the hour. We are now looking at some rain and a bit of wind. So what?

That's rather good to know. The Mrs is in Ottawa at present and is flying home, via TO, tommorrow PM. All we need now is for the 48hrs of <1km vis Rain, Drizzle and Fog in St John's to clear up so flights can actually get in.

Watching the rolling coverage on CNN, it does appear that armageddon is approaching for NYC at least.

Weather-wise, the missus should be OK at this end. The issue, I think, is whether or not the aircraft will be in place. Lots of flights to/from the USA are being cancelled. All she can do is keep an eye on things.

So does this mean I was wasting my time raking up all the leaves in my yard in to neat piles over the weekend...

The wind warnings seem to be getting more severe, last night when I went to bed the forecast was 30-40km/hr now they say 60-90km/hr with gusts in excess of 100km/hr.

I will not be surprised if there are lots of power outages tonight in Ontario.
