Thanks - yup, it looks gorgeous from the outside (and it's not as teeny as it looks - it goes back much further than its width) and it's the pics/outward appearance that really sold it to us from the UK, but it's a 3 bedroom home, with 2 bedrooms upstairs and the other one down in the basement, and the only bathroom is on the middle/ground floor, right next to the kitchen

Let's just say that you can definitely tell it was designed by a single 18 year old bloke, with no female input, LOL!

We lived in a 1960s bungalow for 11 years until we sold it last year to move to Australia. The buyer's inspector told me, based on his 20 years of experience, older houses generally are of better quality. He's inspected new houses (less than 5 years old) that have serious workmanship problems and safety issues..."just slapped up" as he said. He reckons that older houses were built to better standards decades ago. Anyway, just his opinion. Our house didn't give us any problems the whole time we lived there although I swear the guy who built it in the 60s must have had a drinking problem or didn't use a level because there's some interior basement walls that are noticeably crooked.

Ours was built in 1986. We had its first new roof since it was built put on last week. It now looks decidedly less hairy than it did.

Does your neighbourhood have that lovely charm of above ground poles etc that don't seem to be a feature of similar age neighbourhoods here on the not so dark side.
If you mean utility poles, there are none. Everything is underground. That does mean, of course, that we have a phone pillar and cable pillar on the front lawn, along with a fire hydrant.

I've been told by a neighbour, who was already living here, that this house went up extremely quickly. It had already been mostly built elsewhere and the developed changed his mind. It came here in sections and was glued together.

I have noticed that many areas of Gatineau built in the 80's and 90's were built w/o underground utilities and it stands out from similar type homes in 613. A prime example is on the south side of Autoroute 50 opposite where the Costco used to be.
