Default How do you find Canadian politics?

A very vague question, I know, but I'm curious as to what Britons and British ex-pats may think of our federal politics, compared to what you grew up with? Is it more or less the same pile of shit everywhere there's a parliamentary system in place?

The biggest difference is that Canadian Politics isn't from the top down like the UK, but the bottom up. Local politics is more important, day to day, than Federal.

Any more 'Afghan Detainees' drivel from sad MP's looking for a wagon to hitch themselves too and I will give up the will to live....

Unfortunately, drivel of this calibre is all to often what we get to hear about rather than more basic day to day topics of REAL interest to the population as a whole.

At the Federal level they're basically playing British Politics Lite Edition (for Dummies.) It's just a bunch of spoiled kids pointing fingers and doing nothing.

Nothing has happened in Canadian politics than has any significant consequence for me since I arrived, so I pretty much ignore the subject. If there was a funeral for Stephen Harper and I heard about it, I'd put out some flags and open some Spanish plonk in the manner of champagne, but he'd probably have to be assassinated before it was news enough to reach my ears.

Politics? Here? I must have missed it. Unless people are scrapping to the death it doesn't come under my radar.

That's the problem with immigrants. No appreciation of the big issues; revisiting official bilingualism, re-re-rewording the constitution, renegotiating the softwood lumber provisions of NAFTA, revising federal transfer payments, re- zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Just remember that Mark Twain got it right when he said

"Politicians are like diapers; they need to be changed often and for the same reason."
