How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
I have just been reading about the South African chef who is not having his New Zealand visa renewed as they say he poses a drain to the Kiwi Health Services.
Nice link to test how you do. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-18770328#female All results strictly private! I have gained 5kgs since being in Canada, and I am now determined its going to go!:o |
Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
That's probably due to portion size. Was thinking about this the other day, and why NA packaging gravitates towards larger portions (e.g. A 250g large bag of crisps vs a 150g large bag). First I thought this might simply be because the average household has more fridge and storage space than in Europe, but I'm now wondering if it has to do with transportation efficiency.

Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
Oh great, that's really cheered me up and set my mood for the day. :frown:
I'm going to waddle off, heave my lardy arse to the kitchen, and contemplate which salad leaf I want for lunch. |
Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
I have to get up and turn the bacon.

Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
Hmmm.... Not getting on those scales again without a helium balloon in each hand! :o
Apparently I'm most like an Egyptian woman and I need to work towards being Indonesian! |
Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
I was feeling good from having lost a few pounds, now I have to lose a LOT more!

Cambodia apparently. Whatever that means.

Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
I wonder if they are sending all the smokers back home, and the postive genetic testing people, and high cholesterol, uncontrolled diabetics, underweight people, drinkers, runners,
So many to chose from. |
Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
my weight fluctuates quite a lot
just before i left the UK i had lost more than 2 stone, but i've put it all back on since coming here i'll lose it again once i've started proper eating habits, but i've just been really lax about it for the past while my belt has all the holes used  that's how much i fluctuate |
Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
I just moved from Ecuador to Algeria over the past five weeks. Aiming for Denmark.

Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
I'm apparently most like someone from Eritrea
|
Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
My OH is like someone from Ethiopia, maybe we need to eat a bit more ;)

Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
I'm thinner than 79% of my doughnut-eating, Tim Horton's swilling, non-exercising countrymen. Take that fatties!
On a lighter note, I need to move to Brunei to feel like one of the crowd! |
Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
Though the global stats link doesn't work on my phone I wiki'd it and at 30.1 I'm fatter than the average Samoan, but not as much as a Micronesian or Tongan. It's all the food and beer.

Be ashamed. I'm better off (in BMI terms) than 92% of my Canadian cohort and I think it was 78% worldwide (including Cambodia and Somalia etc).

Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
Better than 73% of the new countrymen but there again we've never been to a Timmys so we have an unfair advantage.
|
Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
It says I fit the Central African Republic which surprises me because I've just started a no-eating, resume smoking, campaign in order to fit back into my suit. I hope to lose a stone over the coming month.

Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
I am presently of Mauritius proportions....and should be heading towards Turkmenistan! I really don't eat more in Canada, as I find the 'crap' that I would occasionally indulge in in France, either doesnt exist here or tastes dreadful. I just don't exercise here. I take the car for all sorts of things that I'd usually do on foot, or my bike. This WILL change pronto:fingerscrossed:

Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
It was certainly worth stoking up the old desktop and doing the BBC test! My BMI went down to 29 putting me fatter than 63% of Canadians, which means somewhere out there are 37% as bad as me or worse. It said I'm closest to being like the average American. If not for legions of spandex-clad health nuts whizzing around on their bikes (scads of them here!) screwing up the statistics this sort of thing would be a lot less demeaning. I'm only about 15 minutes or less drive from the US border, but I'd rather go to Tonga or Micronesia where I'll fit in better.

Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
Apparently, I should be residing in Myanmar (Burma).
73% lower than others in this fair Country, for my age.. Only another 20lb to go then! :p |

Curiously, when I had an insurance medical a couple of years ago (same BMI as now), the examining doctor said: "they'll like that". |
Re: How do you fare on the Global Fat Scale?
BMI is irrelevant as it doesn't take into account your body fat percentage..it is just your height divided by your weight..a professional athlete could be classed as being obese simply because muscle weighs a lot more than fat:thumbdown:

You can't write it off as irrelevant simply because it does not apply to all cases. Your example is correct, and there are even issues with applying BMI across different ethnic groups or children, but by and large it is a useful comparator. Far more useful than locating oneself within an international ranking based on BMI for a start!

I think Ed Byrne has this correct. Look at yourself in a mirror naked to decide whether you are overweight. No one has ever done that and then found out they were wrong after standing on scales;)
