I believe the "Nationality" line in the British passport states "British Citizen" , just as mine will state (in the Maltese passport) "Malti/ja / Maltese"
;)
Hopefully they never introduce one "European" passport and make us all "European" citizens, losing the national status of our homes... I dont want a European passport, I am Maltese, you lot are British, and I dont think you want a European passport either...:eek:

Wouldn't lose that much sleep over it to be honest.

I simply want to get in and out of the airport with as less hassle as possible.

Very true... I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world, and it would definitely be better than Canada and the US entering a political union and forcefully becoming an American citizen... (I would renounce that immediately) But just imagine having the same passport as a, say, err, Bulgarian... That would create more hassle at an airport as airport officials try to determine what country you are from. Regardless of EU citizenship, a British or Irish national is more likely to be treated better at the airport/border crossings at most places that Romanian or Bulgarians.

I was using the phrase pay grade ironically. I meant, your comments on passport control are absolute nonsense. If a passport is issued by a member of the European Union, border control doesn't give a fork about which country issued the passport.

Really? Maybe Novo can give some insight on this (it is novo who works for CBSA right? Or is it Former Lancastrian) but I thought that especially American passport control would want to talk a little more to someone from Romania with a heavy almost-russian-sounding accent, then someone from Ireland or the UK.

I suspect with Malta selling it's citizenship to wealthy foreigners for €1.15 million they will want to talk to "Maltese" people more when they are entering the U.S..... (or even Canada!) I know my grandparents were always hassled before they became Canadian citizens when they travelled to the US. (apparently Maltese people look like Arabs and Maltese sounds like Arabic so thats probably why)

They just planned a trip to Florida and I advised them to get their Cdn passports renewed for the trip as they will go through alot faster than if they used the Maltese...

You sound a bit too much like you read the Daily Mail and take it as gospel.

British and Canadian passports can be advantageous as they often have agreements with other western countries.

But to suggest a European passport would not be more valuable than a British one makes no sense.

Just my personal opinion based on personal experiences / as well as knowledge i have read from elsewhere. (NO not the daily mail I know enough to take what they say with a pinch of salt)

An example of how a British passport would be more advantageous than another EU one is the commonwealth. British passport holders have access to working holiday visas in Australia, NZ, and I believe South Africa. (although I could be wrong on that one) There are also a slew of commonwealth citizen visas available to UK citizens that are not available to say, French or Spanish citizens. (not as much as 20 or 30 yrs ago but still quite a few)

The British passport at the moment is also tied for number one passport with Finland in terms of visa-free countries, at 173 I believe. (according to Henley and Partners)

Re: How British are you?

A British passport gives you both EU and Commonwealth citizenship and allows you to travel to the most countries visa-free worldwide so it's more valuable than most other European passports in that sense.

I see your argument has changed a little.

I'm sure any benefits of being British would be extended should a European Passport replace it.

As for it being more valuable than other passports in Europe that is a different argument.

The other suggests I'm Irish, which is pretty valid too. A lot of my mothers side of the family are Protestants from Donegal.
