Default How is it....

.... that according to the government we only have less than 1% of the population who are Polish in Britain, yet I went to my local Asda yesterday (bearing in mind that I live in a small town of 50,000) and found this :-

Now I have nothing against people who emigrate - would be supremely ignorant of me, seeing that's also my goal. I'm all for people wanting to make a better life for themselves....

However, I do object to the fact that only 1% are registered to pay tax and NI, yet the above clearly must demonstrate that the figure must be much higher?

At least the Canadian government puts some kind of limit on immigration and even makes an attempt to track it....

Maybe Asda are getting their marketing information from reading the Daily Mail. But just an observation in my town, a small Polish food shop has just opened, so maybe I'm wrong.

There are British food shops in Canada though, I saw one in Kingston.

Could it be that people eat food other than that from their country of origin? Could it perhaps be that some English people put aside their jellied eels now and then and eat a perogie?

That just not possible is it?

You couldn't expect them to put aside such a thing as traditional English curry?

Is Polish food known for its excellence then? Why is there not a French or German section too if that's the case?

It's more confusing than that. Since when has anything got to do with humans been exact.

I agree. It's scandalous that the English employers aren't registering their workers and no doubt denying them their basic employment rights. I'd suggest you contact the appropriate government department and suggest they perform a thorough audit of local companies. This sort of exploitation shouldn't be allowed to happen.

Or, if you're suggesting that you've got a large number of self-employed Polish contractors who aren't declaring their income for tax purposes - then absolutely, only Brits should be allowed to continue this much-loved and cherished pastime.

I like to have Polish sausage in me, yes. Chinese food, otoh, isn't particularly good but a small Chinese population has made it popular. I don't see why Polish food shouldn't be catching on in same way.

I don't think he realises what he's missing out on. Who doesn't enjoy a salty treat from a massive Pole?
