Default Housing, BC and the federal liberals

Seems BC isn't getting much funding from the Liberals Housing plan where they promised money to build subsidized housing.

Ontario has however received a good chunk of money, getting 7 times more funds for housing than BC but only having 3 times the population.

“I feel that because we’re out West, we get neglected,” Kwan said. “For us in British Columbia, we are not the centre of the universe, in the hearts and minds of the federal Liberal government.”

“a complete disconnect in what the Liberals keep on bragging about, versus what’s happening on the ground.”

BC is the 3rd largest province by population and one of the worst housing issues in the country, but seems to be getting left out.

Article here.

0.5% went to B.C. projects. Ontario got 94% of the funding ($1.39 billion, mostly Toronto)

That definitely isn't fair at all. Maybe it could be related to how building housing in BC is more difficult in general? With ALR land protections, slow approval processes and fragmented municipalities compared to Toronto's "megacity" approach. Seems unlikely that would really stop it though.

Funding or lack of it I should say, is by far the biggest hurdle, when funding has been available housing has been built or in the process of being built.

At some point the federal government decided housing wasn't important, and the provinces alone don't have the funds for it, so not much was built, and the existing buildings were kind of ignored maintenance wise.

Perhaps only voting in 11 Liberal seats compared to 76 seats in Ontario at the last General election might give you an indication as to how they feel about BC

Maybe they would get more seats if they didn't have a history of ignoring BC.
