I did ponder that but, after contacting people I actually know down that way, I decided not to bother. People who live there tend not to stay in hotels there. There are folk on the Canada forum who travel lots, including to New York. I figured they would be a better bet.

I've solved the problem anyway.

Yes, but it's a tourist spot, and loads of folks travel there too and they might know different deal type sites to what you get :/

It's a moot point now. I've booked us in the Holiday Inn in Chelsea. Decent price, correct amenities, reasonably close to where I have to go and reasonably close to things Souvette will want to do (and my Visa card will hate).

Good choice.....

Rule 1: Don't hand over your CC to a partner (separate accts dude)

Rule 2: As long as the person who is Govt employee is on the trip, you are good to go to get the Govt rate.

The US is good for acknowledging Govt/Military discounts. I managed to get into most museums in Chicago for free, and I get to board first on planes most times.

Can't be helped. I'm a supplementary on her card. It's her account. I just pay the bill!

Tried that when I booked. Failed. I was doing it on my company Amex. We'll try again when we check in.

For some bizarre reason, booking direct with Holiday Inn was cheaper than using Expedia.

Holiday Inn guarantee to offer their cheapest rates direct.. also have a very good loyalty scheme (which currently has me half way through a nine night stay completely free...)

That program provided me with a bicycle and with camping equipment so I didn't have to stay at the Holiday Inn when on holiday.

I love that about the Holiday Inn.....I was staying there again on the weekend. They sure have stepped it up with the newer hotels and service

That explains it. Thanks.

I've just noticed that the confirmation they sent me shows me as having been enrolled into the scheme automatically.
