My granddaughter and I are going to England during her Easter holidays from school. We are going to stay at a hotel at Heathrow the night before we leave because we have to be there early.
Can anyone recommend a good hotel with transportation to terminal 3? Not expensive!
I looked online and the Premier Inns - London Heathrow Premier Inn is 54 pounds (pound sign doesnt work) and Premier Inn (M4/J4) is 47 pounds.
I just went looking for hotels that were not too expensive that had wifi in the rooms, but its not really important to have wifi as we will just be more or less sleeping and eating. I would rather watch the planes take off and land!!

Hi Purley
Checkout www.holidayextras.co.uk they have some good prices. If you book an Undercover hotel you can get it cheaper, just read the descriptions, distance or times of shuttle to work out which hotel it is and they are 4star hotels. We have booked these hotels before and been very pleased, PM me if you need any further help.

Whatever you do, do NOT get a black cab from your hotel to T3. Absolute rip off, make sure you get the hotel to book you a mini cab instead.

Hi we used the hopper buses that comes through to the hotel, I think it was £5. And they go about every 20 minutes into T1, T2 and T3.

While traveling back a few years ago I also decided to hotel it close to Heathrow. Googled, and selected one under the Best Western banner. I'd stayed in a few over the years in North America. Knew it wasn't known for its luxury, but for one night thought it should be okay. It also provided a "bus" to the airport in the morning.
It was an atrocious place, dirty and with questionable eating facilities. Service was about 1 on a scale of 10. The "bus" the next morning was a van and "they" tried to cram about 20 into a space for 10. There was no indication on their website of dissatisfaction by others. If my memory serves me well I think it was 90GBP for one night.
Word of mouth is the best form of advertising so someone's recommendation is the road to follow.

A friend of mine stayed at the Ibis. She said it was fine. But you can't always rely on her opinion, i.e. if she has stayed there - it has to be good. She wouldn't admit if it was bad.

I think premier inns, travellodge, travel inn are all ok. They usually have a food place next door. Nothing fancy a steak and chips chain, but its food. Just find one with an airport shuttle and you should be fine.

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza, very nice great rooms but it was the lovely swimming pool, spa and sauna that really did it for us. We booked this as an undercover hotel with the parking for two weeks when we went to Toronto. Also the hopper bus comes to the front entrance to hotel. I know we paid less than £100 for the room and parking for two weeks (2007) Just had a quick check and they want £58 a room in April. HTH

I think 50 pounds is a pretty good price for a Heathrow Hotel.
We have used:
http://www.airport-hotel-shop.co.uk/
http://www.aph.com/
http://www.fhr-net.co.uk/
(they give you prices for lots of hotels and if you are canny you can take the mystery one and read the info and work out which hotel it is!)
www.tripadvisor.com has hotel reviews so you can check them out before you book.
It is also worth checking out the websites of the hotel chains themselves e.g. sheraton, holiday inn, premier travelodge, etc as they often have good offers on. Weekends tend to be a lot cheaper than weekdays because of the business travel mark-up.
We have stayed at: Novotel, all 3 Holiday Inns, both Sheratons, the Premier Travelodge and I think the Park Inn and all were perfectly adequate.
Hotel Hoppa Bus is fine and gets you to the terminal ok. There are some free public transport buses in the area where the hotels are if you do some research but personally with all my luggage the Hoppa bus is door to door.
Have fun!

Just be aware that quite a few of the "Heathrow" hotels are actually on the outskirts of Slough, which at best, is a dump.

Actually, my sister says they stayed at the Thistle and found it OK just for the one night before a trip. I guess we could easily stay there as well.
Thanks for the links - will check them out. I got one dud website and half the hotels I checked said that they were already booked up -- for April 18th -- but when I checked another site, they weren't. So I think there was something wrong with the first web site!

Don't forget after you check out the price comparison sites and find one you like check the hotels own website for special deals.

We stayed in the Ibis at Gatwick the night before flying out on our honeymoon, the room stunk of piss, that put us off using them again somewhat.

"Hold the Alt button and type 0163 on the number keypad, then release the Alt button to get the £ sign."
That used to work, but I do transcribing for a UK company at home on my computer and I use a "virtual dictaphone" called Gear Player. I know it sounds odd, but as soon as I started using Gear Player, I couldn't use the pound sign and if I try to do Alt 0163 while I am using Gear Player it kicks my sound file off Gear Player and I have to reload it!!
I have absolutely no idea why this happens.
Yes the Ibis does not get good reviews from Trip Adviser or from some other hotel websites I've found. The Thistle gets better reviews. My sister said the bathroom needed some TLC but its only for one night.
We need to be at the airport by 10.15 am on the Sunday. My sister lives near Maidstone and I'd rather not be getting up at the crack of dawn and hoping that there is no hold up on the M25 - so a hotel sounds like a better idea.
