Hockey 2010

England are off to a strong start in the hockey.

Canada rather less so.

I believe we beat the Ozzies the other day, but nobody in work really cared.

I expect Ingerland will lose to Germany in the quarter finals, as usual.

They have started well, but caught Australia on a bad day. I expect some sort of heroic near miss in the end. They lost their corner specialist to a dislocated ankle today...thats going to be a problem.

I am surpirsed that the grassed hockey isn't popular in BC. Well, actually I am not. Anyone know who is representing Canada? A club of ex pats in TO?

There are a fair number with indian and pakistani ancestors too. Most players are BC based, plus some from TO. There used to be a few from the Ottawa area too.

Away from the big cities field hockey isnt much of an option. Serious hockey hasnt been played on actual grass since I was kid

Unless things have changed over the last few years Pool B looks to be much stronger than Pool A.

Maybe UEFA did the draw.

Looks good for England so far.

Not much in the media here on the 6-0 defeat to Germany.

It's always impressive how Germany seem to compete at a high level in so many sports - winter and summer olympics, football, hockey, tennis. No doubt if they ever get interested in golf/rugby/cricket they'll be at the top in those also.

There are some grassed hockey pitches in downtown Vancouver. They are next to the old Chinatown. Sitting there on a summer's evening watching people play, with the sounds and smells of Chinatown wafting over you, is just like being in Hong Kong.

Bernhard Langer ain't no Tiger Woods, but golf is actually an increasingly popular sport in Germany. Here's a list of courses...

I'm surprised you're bored Steve. The Canadian team have done very well to qualify for the finals. There's only 12 countries who make it that far. You should be proud.

That is a thundering crowd, ticket prices must be expensive.

Well, I expect all the Canadian fans are all ticketed out after that thing in Vancouver. I wouldn't have expected that the locals in Delhi would have much interest in Germany vs Canada. Foregone conclusion, innit?

But well done to the plucky Canucks for making it so close.
