, we recieved an email yesturday from my OH hospital in Kingston Ontario, letting him know is start date, 4th July is the start of his orientation days so we sat down and dicided that he would need at least a few weeks to sort out house and car ect, so looking at second week half of June to fly out, leaving me and the girls to follow later after my eldeist finishes her GCSE's first flight out after 4th July!,
all excited told my daughters when they arrived home from school, only to find my eldest in floods of tears later on, she is understandibly upset around leaving her friends and family, but just didnt think it would come round so quick!, i still think at times that its not happening to me and im doing all this paperwork and research for some one else,
i try not to think about the goodbyes that i will have to say over the next weeks, leaving my mum of 80 and my sis to take the strain there, i think i will need prozac by the week when we are to catch the flight!
I keep thinking myself and telling my daughter that you have to think of it as a new beginning and not the end of something. A challenge. An adventure.
got to be strong, but feel that i may buckle just dont know when that will be, ist sooo scary handing your notice in, selling the house leaving all the safe and secure things that kept you sane, anyone else feeling the same group hug needed

I know how you feel, whilst Chris is out there making a great start I'm quite happily plodding along back here................however when I think of saying my goodbyes to family etc it then hits home we are really doing this (but in a good way )

Just been to lunch with a very dear friend, we went shopping after i brought a few things to dress the house for putting on the market, when we got home she was very quiet i said to her is something wrong she said it just hit her that we are serious about going because of the things i had brought its hard for everyone, us that are leaving but also those we leave wish you all the very best with everything

From me too - teenagers are so hard to deal with as they have such well established relationships with friends. Why dont you get your daughter to PM my daughter (Hannahb12) if she needs to vent and ask anything ? Sure Hannah would help her out and stuff.

Honestly though - she will be fine once she is out here though for sure as those Canadian boys will just love her accent and want to take her for a movie

Have you thought about moving about one day before your daughter (s?) would start school here? That way they won't have the summer holibobs to get all morose and sentimental over who and what they are missing in the UK, plus gets them right into meeting and making new friends straight away.

I would think that they would not be too hp about spending summer holidays with no friends until school starts??? Just a thought

That is a great reply MMC.........10 wks summer hols is a very long time, my kids were so bored last yr. I did get them into afew camps over the summer, and its not cheap, and to be honest it didn't help them much either. They still didn't know anyone and felt like ducks out of water.

That certainly is worth thinking about (but you'll miss a fab summer here!!) - I know mandymoo's son (not mandymoochops as above - confused?) had problems making friends when he did not start school straight away then had the summer hols on top - it did cause some serious upset in the house with one very unhappy teen.

Your daughter could and should make lots of new friends easily in a new school - but sitting at home for 10 weeks just MSN'ing everyone back in the UK could be a recipe for disaster !

Not saying don't move sooner - just be aware of what may lie ahead. Keep very occupied - make contact with anyone else on here that might live near where you are going, especially if they have teens. We moved last year at the end of May - the girls went to school for 4 weeks then broke up. So luckily they did get to know a few kids, and they easily made friends with neighbourhood kids (mine were 7 and 9 then). I thought we'd get to know lots of our adult neighbours over the summer - but they all buggered off on their hols for weeks on end

In the meantime, yes - it's hard at times, bloody exciting at other times - if you want to wail, then do so - think ahead at all the work you've put in, and give it a damn good go - bigs hugs from me too

Just keep going. Its a small world out there, in terms of flying, this will help with freinds and family comming over to see you when your settled.

I got your message and have sent you a details on Kingston rentals. We have been in Kingston for 4 weeks and in that time have bought a car, a house and got lots done. I was all easier than I feared. If I can help in any way send me a message no mater how trivial. Kingston is a great place and when you arrive in summer you will be able to sit in the town square and watch the public movies they put on for families its like a big party... you never see that in the UK. PS its about 24 degree C here and sunshine, thats something to look forward to.

You will love it... not saying it is easy but then when was something worthwhile ever easy.

We're awaiting our med request but already I've had a couple of dreams already of being at the airport, turning around and seeing friends and family waving and crying. It's something which, as we reach each milestone, hits home that we're gonna miss our family and friends here, but we remind ourselves that a) the reasons why we're leaving the UK and b) it's a small world and our front door will always be open for people to come visit us.

But certainly the impending move is definitely hitting home...

We are still waiting for our work permit its been 12 weeks now and counting, but its getting close now, had a bad day on Saturday, weather didnt help but all got a bit much, kids arguing, mum at the doctors she didnt feel well, is it the stress of me going ? i was thinking, cried a lot and felt better the next day, well i will just have to take each day as it comes, mums feeling better now took her to the doctors so on the mend,
