I've been thinking about giving it a try. For me it's marginally nearer than whistler, but I'm not sure how good hwy 7 is compared to the sea-to-sky hwy. Not sure if it would be worth it from down town when you have whistler nearby though.

Hwy 7 is just a regular road past Mission. Nothing like the Sea to Sky Hwy. I don't ski or board so I can't comment on the slopes at Hemlock Valley, but I did drive up there a few years ago and did some tubing which was quite fun.
It is a small resort, even compared to the North Shore slopes. However, it seems to be much less crowed - I did not notice any particular lineups. And yes, there are some very nice views. It should be worth an exploratory trip.

I've never been but apparently its a great place to go on Thursdays beacuse the hill is closed Monday through Wednesday so theres a good bulid up of powder.....
Wasn't it closed down for a year or so, then reopened again last year? Operations might have changed so check up on that.

Yep we thought it may be less crowded over the holidays..we will check out what is operating before we set off...
Saw some scary news today of a ski lift being derailed due to winds:

Had a membership there for years during our Chilliwack days.
It was a great family ski hill...although we have not been there for 16+years

Hemlock is very small in comparison whith Whistler - it's very old and outdated too. There are plans to expand the resort within the coming year(s) and put new runs / lifts/ etc in. Saying that, it's a nice, quiet place to learn. I had boarding lessons there last year but never progressed beyond the learner slopes as I had a bad fall and hurt my ribs
So I can't say what the 'proper' slopes are like.
Commencing January, they usually do a ladies day where there are free lift passes for women on certain days.
Don't expect a huge resort like Whistler - there is a shop and a cafe/restaurant/pub and that's about it.
