Help - Posting Resume's On Monster.....
#1
Hello Chaps!
As you all know (and are probably bored hearing about) I'm off for my new / different life in Vancouver later this year.
I work in Recruitment which thankfully is a fairly transferable trade, however the major job boards - such as Monster etc, are widely used by us in the UK to source candidates.
Nearer my departure to Vancouver, I obviously want to market myself, and maybe in advance of my handing in my notice. The one thinn that I am unsure of, and not sure if anyone even knows the answer, is, if my CV is on there, would it come up for any searches in the UK? Or, are there ways of ensuring it is hidden from UK employers and only avail for empoyers in Vancouver etc..
Also - as an aside, anyone on here who works in recruitment, please can you tell me how much you may use such internet sites for recruiting either new consultants or finding those suitable for jobs on your job boards?????
Cheers guys!!!

Also have a look at www.workopolis.com and www.working.com
We certainly do use the job boards for some recruitment although there is a lot more networking here than I used to do in the UK, I have some HR/Recruitment specific networking groups that I belong to over here. I will PM you the details once I get into work tomorrow.
If you were looking at 3rd party agency, I am sure Vancouver has all the big staffing firms with websites that you can upload your resume onto.
I know you and I are on Linkedin - I came across a rec to rec recruiter on there today - again I will try and dig out her details and flip them across to you.
Take care

Hiya, I posted quite recently about this as I'd just uploaded my resume to monster.ca and have since been inundated with calls from UK recruitment consultants looking to place me in UK jobs - despite my specified work location being listed as Ontario! Apparently, because you are submitting your resume from a UK ISP, the IP address automatically sends your details to monster.co.uk, even if your job agents are suggesting canadian positions, and theres no way of changing this. I'm not an IT expert so the terminology may be wrong, but I guess you have to make friends with a Canadian and get them to post your resume!
Good luck

That would be awesome if you could do that. The only thing is I'm not planning on being out there till August time I guess? What do you think - would it be silly to post it so soon? should I wait?
And - Maybe it's early days, but I've not heard anything about that link / contact to IBM in Vancouver yet?
I'll go by your advice re: posting resume on.

Welcome to the Canadian Job Search! It is a lot different from UK's.
Many points to consider: the main points: 1) Change your CV to a Resume (no personal details eg. marital status, religion etc.. )
2) Go onto Service Canada's website under Labour Market Information and search companies that hire your occupation, it may come under serveral different titles (Look up the NOC) to find the correct one.
3) Write a Cover letter using the information on the NOC
4) Then send out your Resume and Cover letter to all of the companies listed. There you are not in competition with others and the employers will look highly upon your inititive.
I have assist many unemployed people and many new to Canada to find employment in the Chilliwack area, that is my job and it is all free. We are funded by the Federeal Government.
Good Luck!
Lesley
