On October 25th I hit the heaviest I ever was at 238, today 227. 11 pounds lost and all I have changed so far was just dumping sugary drinks.

Very well done! Stick with it.

Brillant, small changes of calorie intake over a long time is the best way to lose weight and keep it off. Otherwise your body thinks its getting starved and when you do start to eat normally it stores it as fat just in case you do again. Good luck, you're heading in the right direction. Add in some extra exercise and you won't believe how good you'll feel.

Damn. You're making the 3kg's (6.6lbs) I lost in almost the same period look a bit meh.

I went to a fancy all you can eat buffet yesterday. I might have over indulged because I'm 3lbs heaver this morning when compared to yesterday.

Careful with this - each pound lost is a calorie deficit of 3400 or so. That's roughly 25 cans of coke and if you drink 2 or 3 a day you'll lose around a pound every couple of weeks all else being even. Doesn't sound a lot, but it adds up over time.

Also, fat people often lose water when they change their diet which makes the initial results look good only to give up when the rate slows down significantly or worse the water comes back and makes it look like the results have been lost.

Oooh which one?

I'm, being fairly sensible when it comes to eating and drinking atm so I have a lot of margin for error when it comes to the three weeks of Christmas blow outs.

A good poop might shift much of that.

I was drinking a tad more then 2 or 3 per day.

I don't expect to lose everything from the soda stopping, but it surprised me how much of the weight was likely contributed by the soda, I don't tend to eat fast food, and really I am not a big eater at all, my "over eating" was from consuming high calorie liquids from a can, however thus far I have not noticed that I am eating more because of the elimination of soda.

Was it hard to give up the pop? What about other sugar in tea or coffee? I've tried not sweetening coffee but I just don't like the taste, maybe I need to persevere. I don't eat cakes and cookies, not much other sweet stuff but I would like to cut out more.

It took a few attempts this year to cut it out, I tried and failed within a day usually, I'd have a caffeine and sugar crash, and I'd go back to the pop to feel better.

This time around, I just dealt with the miserable feeling for a few days, and it went away and I have been doing well since.

I don't drink coffee, even with sugar and milk, I don't like the taste, and only tea I drink is green tea cold, and I don't add anything to it.

I am drinking about 75% water and 25% green tea throughout the day.

I had more success at cutting out the baked goods earlier in the summer, so haven't been eating much of those or baking.

I am obviously still getting sugar (or sugars?) through the fruit and other foods I eat, but I doubt 1-2 fruits a day or the oatmeal and veggies is anywhere close to the boat of soda I was drinking.

Stick with it. 6 times over a couple of weeks will change your taste buds.

Actually, I've just started having coffee black with no sugar/sweetener and an surprised how good it is. You can really taste the coffee flavour, and it seems like a different drink. Maybe it depends on the coffee you are using?

I persevered. Didn't work for me.

The best I could do was halve the sugar I previously used. Or eat something sweet alongside, like those sesame snap things...but that kind of defeats the object.

Unsweetened was just undrinkable.

I found a sweetener that, for me, was as good as sugar, with no funny taste. Canderel in the UK, Equal here. (pill not granule) But I remember Js saying he thought it had a funny taste so each to their own.

Yes...it goes from a nice drink to a horrible one.

Seriously it seems different for everyone.

Years ago I got used to not adding milk to coffee; using skimmed milk for cereal or glugging; not adding salt to cooking (except maybe a little seasoning); not adding salt to my plate - except for chips because chips just HAVE to have salt on them; not adding sugar to cereal (shredded wheat being an exception)....

But I absolutely could not adjust to unsweetened coffee.

If you aren't running the crane a smash of whiskey, or if you can't handle that a measure of Baileys should do the trick. If you're concerned about the sugar in the booze..... honey is and has always been the healthy alternative. It never goes bad.
